Some users have reported an issue in which audio and video are out of sync after the update to iTunes 10.1. During movie playback, the audio suffers a delay in relation to the video (i.e. there is a gap between the image and the sound, or the video outpaces the audio).
An effective fix for this issue has not emerged thus far; as such, some users have resorted to downgrading to iTunes 10.0, via these instructions.

Yes, I am one of the users experiencing this very problem.

I have the very same problem with my video podcasts and it only happens in iTunes. Also the support sucks. I only have iTunes because I bought an iPhone. I finally wrote Apple and complained and gave up. I just stopped downloading podcasts or video to iTunes and go to the website where the podcasts reside and watch them there. I think Apple has been really lame in this area. I mean, c’mon, if they aren’t technically proficient enough to solve this issue and send everyone the fix for it, am I really going to trust them enough to buy a MAC instead of a Windows based computer? Just wait, some intelligent person will come up with a product that is consumer friendly to replace iTunes and work with everybody’s phone. When that happens, I’ll bet Apple will suddenly give a damn whether their customers are happy or not.

going backwards to 10.0 works great…unless you have updated your stupid iPhone to 4.2. which i did. 4.2 requires 10.1 iTunes. nice.

This is what worked for me for Windows 7 — Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Manage Audio Devices > >>>
Right click on your Speakers and Headphones and go to Properties > Advanced
Now… bring the quality of your sound down – I changed mine from 24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality) TO 24 bit, 44100 Hz (Studio Quality) — it works like a charm for me now! Hope this helps.

I am one of many that had the synch problem. I say HAD because I finally found a fix or possibly an incorrect setting in BIOS. I noticed one of the sound settings in Bios was set to HD.
I had the option to change to AC97. saved the Bios and rebooted……hooray problem solved. I also noticed that unlocking cores made the symptom even worse. All is running very well with all cores unlocked and 24bit 192000Hz set on the sound card.
for information I have a ASUS M4N68T-M V2 motherboard and
Xonar DS sound card
Hope this helps.

Solution
Control Panel –> Sound –> Speakers Properties –> Advanced –> Change to lower bit rate –? 24Bit 44100 should work

Already had my sound on a lower bitrate and still am having problems. Any ideas? Somebody recommended trying to break the audio and video and re-align them, but haven’t figured out how to yet. Please help!!! I recoreded the TSO concert when it came through the area on my IPOD Touch Gen 4 and it started out synced but then all 4 videos came out of sync…not small files either…all 4 files total over 11 gigs. I would like to re-align all of this so I can put it to a DVD. Please help

bummer, it didn’t work for me. I am using Windows 7 and iTunes 10.6 and the sound and video start out in sync but are completely out of sync within a few minutes. Any other ideas how to fix this problem?

I have given up using iTunes to play my movies. The alternative VLC media player is pretty well.
