Several users have reported that several issues (slower loadings; graphical glitches, freezings or it just doesn’t play at all) when trying to play music. This is how you fix your music app:
- Plug your iDevice into iTunes
- Open iTunes and go to the music tab on your device and uncheck “Sync Music.” This will remove all music from your device. Apply changes and sync.
- After the sync finishes go back to the music tab and recheck “Sync Music.” Apply your changes and sync your music back to your iPhone/iPod.
- Now, try playing your music now from the music app. It should work.

What about the issue with playing audio books and podcasts at half speed? Is there even a way to find out if Apple is working on a fix or an ETA on it? This Music App is just awful!!

I was forced into this method when upgrading from 4.3.5 to ios5 as, for some reason, iTunes seemed to think that my iMac and iPod Touch were not the two devices always (and only) used for syncing. I left it for the best part of an hour and thought nothing more of it until I went to use the iPod the following day: no output… Full power cycle and I got some noise out. However, the album art was lost, shuffle would skip two tracks, artwork and tracks were not correct and it just stops playing for some reason. It looks like it is, but the timer continues to show 0… not impressed. I want a proper fix. Grr

Suggested solution seems to help (on 2nd try). Final judgement awaits resynchronizing >1,000 more songs, but first signs are OK. Thanks!
Glad to know I’m not the only one wit this problem, but not at all glad to see how Apple’s quality of software takes a dent with iOS 5. Could almost have been Windows…

Worked for me… unsync and then Sync

Well it did work, but I am skeptical because itunes is still not acting right. The resync never really ended….it never finished “coping” but all my songs and seem to be on my ipod and it plays now, thnk god. I still think they are going to need to have some fix-patch or something because something is still not right. Thanks for the quick fix though.
peace ~

I also lost my music, my photos and my videos on my iPhone during the upgrade to iOS 5.0. The above mentioned methon did not work. Can I restore my iPhone content from older backups somewhere on my computer or from my Time machine? If so, how?

This approach worked for me, but the problem keeps returning. I don’t want to re-sync my iPhone music library every other day. There must be a better solution.

My Music App (IOS 5, iPhone 3GS) just freezes on a ‘No Content’ screen although Settings>General>About shows 4,200 songs on the iPhone. Tried this Sync/Unsync suggestion but it made no difference at all. Any other help please?

I’d love to try this but my synch and apply buttons are greyed out. Anyone else have this problem? any fixes?

Hi, I have a similar problem with my music. I synchronized iTunes music library to my iPhone, and there was no music in the phone. So I deleted all the library, put the music again to library, synchronized it and there are some songs playing and some are there, but in grey and cannot be played. for example from one whole album are 3 songs in my phone written black and playing, the rest is there, but grey and they r not playing. I am using iTunes 10, iPhone 4S with OS 5. Could someone help me? thanks a lot.

it DOES work.. every time I do it. problem is i keeps happening and so I have to keep wiping / re-syncing which is a pain. works fine and then slowly but surely music stops playing. I played one album on the way to work and when I tried to play it on the way home .. nada. the music is THERE and you hit the play button and nothing happens at all. then it spreads until after a week or so none of the music plays. like a virus. this time i turned all cloud syncing off.. hoping that will help, since it started happening the same time as that update..
