Several users have reported that several issues (slower loadings; graphical glitches, freezings or it just doesn’t play at all) when trying to play music. This is how you fix your music app:
- Plug your iDevice into iTunes
- Open iTunes and go to the music tab on your device and uncheck “Sync Music.” This will remove all music from your device. Apply changes and sync.
- After the sync finishes go back to the music tab and recheck “Sync Music.” Apply your changes and sync your music back to your iPhone/iPod.
- Now, try playing your music now from the music app. It should work.
Eh no,that didnt help at all, tried that 2 times
On ios 6 my music app doesnt play songs when i click song it goes back to the song list???
What about the issue with playing audio books and podcasts at half speed? Is there even a way to find out if Apple is working on a fix or an ETA on it? This Music App is just awful!!
I was forced into this method when upgrading from 4.3.5 to ios5 as, for some reason, iTunes seemed to think that my iMac and iPod Touch were not the two devices always (and only) used for syncing. I left it for the best part of an hour and thought nothing more of it until I went to use the iPod the following day: no output… Full power cycle and I got some noise out. However, the album art was lost, shuffle would skip two tracks, artwork and tracks were not correct and it just stops playing for some reason. It looks like it is, but the timer continues to show 0… not impressed. I want a proper fix. Grr
Suggested solution seems to help (on 2nd try). Final judgement awaits resynchronizing >1,000 more songs, but first signs are OK. Thanks!
Glad to know I’m not the only one wit this problem, but not at all glad to see how Apple’s quality of software takes a dent with iOS 5. Could almost have been Windows…
Worked for me… unsync and then Sync
Well it did work, but I am skeptical because itunes is still not acting right. The resync never really ended….it never finished “coping” but all my songs and seem to be on my ipod and it plays now, thnk god. I still think they are going to need to have some fix-patch or something because something is still not right. Thanks for the quick fix though.
peace ~
I also lost my music, my photos and my videos on my iPhone during the upgrade to iOS 5.0. The above mentioned methon did not work. Can I restore my iPhone content from older backups somewhere on my computer or from my Time machine? If so, how?
This approach worked for me, but the problem keeps returning. I don’t want to re-sync my iPhone music library every other day. There must be a better solution.
My Music App (IOS 5, iPhone 3GS) just freezes on a ‘No Content’ screen although Settings>General>About shows 4,200 songs on the iPhone. Tried this Sync/Unsync suggestion but it made no difference at all. Any other help please?
I’d love to try this but my synch and apply buttons are greyed out. Anyone else have this problem? any fixes?
Thanks….fixed!
Hi, I have a similar problem with my music. I synchronized iTunes music library to my iPhone, and there was no music in the phone. So I deleted all the library, put the music again to library, synchronized it and there are some songs playing and some are there, but in grey and cannot be played. for example from one whole album are 3 songs in my phone written black and playing, the rest is there, but grey and they r not playing. I am using iTunes 10, iPhone 4S with OS 5. Could someone help me? thanks a lot.
Perfect! Worked on first try.
Thank you!!!
it DOES work.. every time I do it. problem is i keeps happening and so I have to keep wiping / re-syncing which is a pain. works fine and then slowly but surely music stops playing. I played one album on the way to work and when I tried to play it on the way home .. nada. the music is THERE and you hit the play button and nothing happens at all. then it spreads until after a week or so none of the music plays. like a virus. this time i turned all cloud syncing off.. hoping that will help, since it started happening the same time as that update..
THAT WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM!!! 100%
and here is something more
iOS 5 seems to be Buggy in everything that deals to music… Even the standard ipod player, which was updated in 1OS5 is now MEGA BUGGY, music is jumping withing the song, leads some short part of this song that komes a bit later then jumps back and plays further till that plache where that piece came from and there makes just some noise and plays furter from the end of that song piece… EXTREMELY ANNOYING… The Developers made everything what one could make wrong in that software…
the iPad version of ipod app was changed and GUI was just SPOILED… the rewind timeline is extremely small and the slider is just a little orange line… THAT IS TERRIBLE!!!! Apple used to take care of the usability before, now they seem to take care only about making more money and bringing out to as many gadjets with minimal extra features to make more money…
Another issue is that ald devices have not enough RAM for the stable work of iOS5 and higher…
Utilization of RAM for multiple tasks was made EXTREMELY BAD, that is why Apps Crush more often because the amount of free RAM is less with every new version, and even cause ocasional RESTART of the device. My iPad can just turn OFF and start booting from the Apple sign when it is stressed in any manner (either several apps need more RAM or by installing of the APP)
Didnt work. My music plays extremely slllowww. When played against the radio version or tv version or cd version my iPhone is about four seconds per minute slower than the rest. Awesome if u have a hangover, but that does happen often.
Once again this idiocy with “synchronicing”! Why don’t just let all Apple-devices (iPhone, iPod) appear on a the computer as an external disk like sensible MP3-player manufacturers like iRiver, iAudio etc!?
i jailbroke a iphone and then when i went to music it was there but when i pressed the play button it didnt work im pissed about it
My phone froze so I tryed to reboot it but t would not let me, so when I finally was able to get into the phone I reset the settings of the phone and then I restored from a past bak up. Well my problem is I know all my memory is taken up by my music but now I have no music in my phone but all my memory is still full. The only songs I have on my phone are the 11 songs that I have bought in the past. I had over 3000 songs…ALL GONE…Plz help. Has anyone ever heard of this cdussery05@gmail.com
awesome! worked! thx
I have this issue with iPhone 5 and iOS 6. Haven’t had a chance to try the fix yet as the music on my phone and computer are different and haven’t been synced before. Anyone else seen it on a recent device?
This did not work for me. Here is what did work for me
> Power Off
>> Power On while holding Vol Up key (disables tweaks)
>>> Connect iPhone to iTunes
>>>> uncheck sync music and apply (deletes music from iPhone)
>>>>>Delete iTunes music. (be sure to save music files) (find on computers – user, library, music, itunes, itunes media, music, COPY)
>>>>>>ITUNES – go to playback preferences, sound enhancer off, sound check off, cross fade off. re-add music to iTunes, delete all album covers(right click album cover in library for delete option)
NOTE*
Not sure if these iTunes step helps, this is just the exact process that worked for me
>>>>>> Sync music back to iPhone.
>>>>>>> Power down, Power on iPhone normally
My mom has been through 3 iPhone 5’s already.
Every song starts somewhere in the song, plays for 33 seconds then jumps back to the beginning of the song & play to point where it started then jumps back to where it ended the first time.
Thoughts?

Hi,
I’ve had my 4s for a little over a year. It’s in pretty good condition and like most of you, my music has completely stopped playing… It says it’s playing with the little play icon at the top but in the music player the sound level has disappeared.
At first, I thought I must’ve blew out the speakers so I did a check with headphones and nothing. I can make phone calls just fine and speakerphone is also pretty clear.
I’ve tried all of the above suggestions 6 or 7 times.. I’ve even reset my phone completely. Twice. Nothing.
PLEASE help! I really don’t want to have to buy an iPod… this is just ridiculous.
Not to hijack this thread, but, I’d like to see Atlanta dentists and I don’t know where to look… has anyone ever heard of this Atlanta dental care? They’reIt’s located Atlanta, only 15 minutes from my house. I am not able to find reviews on them – Exceptional Smile LLC, 4420 Bankers Cir, Atlanta, GA 30360 – (678) 841-8800
I just want to be able not to have to update ANYTHING, unless the current programs are no longer working. Is there anyway to turn off or disable Update Reminders on both MacBook and iPhone?? It seems that everything Im forced to download because there is an update, SOMETHING gets screws up or a program no longer works (PowerPC supported programs, for example). I just want to have working platforms adjusted to my liking without having to constantly update the damn things. Does ANYONE know how to disable update reminders??????????
Typical USELESS APPLE.. here we are now 10-06-2016 and this ‘start/stop’ music playing problem on iPhone 4s is STILL NOT FIXED and my phone is now up to iOS 9.3.2!!!… And the previously mentioned unsync then resync DOES NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM.. Done it a thousand times… SICK OF DOING IT!!!
It DOESN’T fix the problem… Might just as well hold damn phone under water for 3 hours.. Same result..Still STOP/START music problem will be there!!
Solution?… DON’T USE PHONE AS AN iPOD… Use a real iPod for playing music!!
GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER APPLE YOU USELESS PILLOCKS!!!!
