iPad 3 (the new iPad) has disappeared? Is it an iPad 3 or an iPad 4?

iPad

Yesterday, many people were expecting the new iPad Mini. But Apple surprised nearly everyone by announcing the iPad 4th generation; Apple calls it the “iPad with retina display,” as nobody expected an iPad 4th generation.  This means that the iPad 4 was announced just seven months after the iPad 3. However, there are some issues with this release that makes many users unhappy. Some of them are:

  • It looks that the iPad 3 is now discontinued and has become obsolete. Apple is no longer offering users the chance to buy a new iPad 3, but, interestingly, you can still buy an iPad 2 from the Apple Store.
  • While some users are considering upgrading from the iPad 3 to an iPad 4, but it seems that there are not very many big improvements. The biggest difference between the iPad 3 and iPad 4 is the processor. The iPad 4 includes a powerful Dual-core A6X with a quad-core graphics chip. Apple claims that the iPad 4 is twice as fast as the iPad 3’s A5X chip. Another noticeable difference is that the iPad 4 includes a lightning connector.
  • And there are some, we call minor, improvements, like Wi-Fi, camera, 4G LTE. The dimensions and weight, however, are identical to the iPad 3. The iPad 4 is more like a slightly modified version of the iPad 3 rather than an upgrade.

As soon as the fourth generation iPad was announced yesterday, people are began expressing their frustration with Apple, mainly because Apple has a good track record of  releasing an upgraded product about a year later. For instance, one user has stated that:

I also feel cheated and disappointed.  The iPad 3 was only 6 months old! I have been a long time customer and was even planning up getting an iPhone 5, but now I will never buy another apple product as long as I live.  They pretty much just dumped on all the iPad 3 customers.

The release of a new version of the iPad just months after the previous release means that we may not see another iPad update for up to two years, many speculate.

There is some good news for those who just bought an iPad 3, though. It seems that Apple stores are extending the iPad 3 return policy period from 14 days to 30 days. Thus you may be able to replace your old iPad 3 with a new iPad 4 if you just bought one.

Boo hoo, their iPad is out of date already. Deal with it, that’s what happens in technology.

At least their “old” tech can still run iOS6 and get the current new improvements. Those with iPads (no #s after or “new”) are stuck at iOS5.

Apple’s arrogance on the naming is going to bite them in the ass sooner or later. So, is the 4 “The newer iPad”, “The New new iPad”, “The new iPad, but better”, or “iPad with retina display” ?

Judging by their current idiocy, they really will call it the latter (which is insane, since “The new iPad” also had Retina), and expect everyone else to also. While sane people will call it the iPad 4.

It’s good to have more options. And it is also good that there are upgrades. But it is very silly to complain about that. The iPad 3 still works fine, so there’s no reason to feel bad about a new iPad. By the way, there are very interesting 8 in chinese tablets for less than $180, it may be worth to evaluate them.
