An Apple ID is simply the username that is linked to a specific account. Logging in with the Apple ID and password established by the user will allow them to complete any tasks with Apple. Creating an Apple ID requires the completion of a short application, which involves forming a username, entering some personal data questions, and answering a security question. It is recommended that a strong password is created as well, with a range of different characters for optimal protection of the account.
From using the iCloud to store content to downloading apps from the App Store and music from iTunes, the Apple ID handles all these with ease. It is also used for FaceTime, Game Center, iBooks, iChat, iMessage, iPhoto, and Mac OS X Lion. All of the Apple Services are conveniently accessed from this same account, in order to avoid the hassle of multiple passwords to remember. The Apple ID can also be entered into the settings menu for the iCloud to save users from retyping the information for each task.
