That’s awful to experience. Did you backup via iTunes or iCloud before initiating your iOS update? Hopefully, you did both backups. If so, your data is protected. Take a look at a couple of our articles for tips on moving forward. However, before doing anything remove your iDevice from the computer (unplug it from connecting cable.) Then try and shut it down normally via the power button. Then connect your iPhone to power via the wall outlet (not via the computer) and try to perform a forced restart by holding down the POWER + HOME or Volume Down (for iPhone 7s and above, with no mechanical home buttons) and continue holding until you see the Apple Logo. See if your iPhone returns to normal.

If this didn’t work, look at the tips in these articles:

Best of Luck,

Make sure your side switch isn’t set to mute–it’s on the same side as your volume controls. If that isn’t the problem, check out this article detailed additional steps for no sound.

Keep us posted and good luck,

Comment on My iPhone 6 gets hot, How to fix? by Anon Y. Mous Tue, 28 Mar 2017 00:00:44 +0000 So I got an iPhone 6s about a week ago, and it’s already heated up at least 2 times. The second time, the same thing happened to me as with Jon — when I used SoundHound to search up one song, the iPhone got really hot. Maybe using apps/downloading stuff makes it warmer? Even now, after searching and reading through two articles, taking off my case, turning off Bluetooth, and deleting GarageBand (I don’t need it anyway), it’s still warm and getting warmer as I’m installing the newest update. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really grateful and happy to have a newer iPhone, but Apple really needs to fix this — this didn’t happen at all with the iPhone 4.

Comment on FaceTime not working; how to troubleshoot FaceTime to fix your problems by Leen van Gent Mon, 27 Mar 2017 01:30:20 +0000 has anyone experienced the following for a video call on facetime:
comp1 = remote computer Macbook air
comp2 = local computer Macbook pro
receiving facetime from comp1 shows video landscape full screen of comp1 on comp2 but screen from comp2 clipped 2/3 on comp1
video call from comp2 to comp1 works fine both ways with full screen.
Any idea what the problem is here. I only have this with one caller, all other facetime calls work fine both ways.

Comment on iOS: Location services not working, fix by Bob Sun, 26 Mar 2017 09:24:51 +0000 I have the solution to this and the plethora of other problems apple has had since ios 7.1 but you won’t like it.

Apple has decided they want you to buy their products more frequently so they are building into their software ways for you to break your device faster like pressing your home button to unlock (you know that button on the bottom you or at least one of your friends has had to move onto the screen cuz it stoped working) but not only have they taken the time to help you break your device faster but they have also decided to leave the phone industry for the portable gaming industry.

what do I mean, welcome to ios 10.2 where all of your notifications prioritize your game/media apps rather than calls and text messages. And should I get started on do not disturb, battery, brightness, sound, music app, photo roll, camera, speech to text….ok you get it..

so what do you do? trash your apple device and buy a different brand. As long as we continue purchasing and using these faulty products we tell the developers that this is ok. This is not ok. So tell them with your money. BUT don’t go running to android. They send force updates to their devices and when they release a new phone (g4s) they take features off the older model (g3s) and make them exclusive “NEW” content on the new phone, in reality if you where checking your settings like me you where probably using those features for months before they told you-you can’t have them anymore without the new device. These companies used to produce quality products but quite obviously they don’t anymore.

So friends its time to change.

Comment on Unknown Error 52 while Restoring from iTunes – Here’s how you can resolve it? by SK Fri, 24 Mar 2017 18:45:27 +0000 Hi John,

This is a particularly difficult problem to solve. A reader had some luck with the following–see if it works for you. We’ve also added it to the reader tips section.
With iPhone plugged into USB – go to Control Panel – System – Device Manager – Expand ‘Mobile Devices’ and uninstall your ‘Apple iPhone.’ Staying in the Device Panel expand the USB Controllers and uninstall the ‘Apple Mobile Device USB Driver’ and then close the device manager window. Now unplug any Apple USB device. Open Control Panel>Programs & Features and UNINSTALL “Apple Mobile Device Support.” Restart Computer. Next, Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:/Program Data/Apple/Installer Cache/. Now ‘sort by date’ in that directory and open a folder that’s an earlier/previous version and double click the installer that resides in that folder (AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) and allows it to run. Restart your computer. Then finally, plug in your iPhone and allow your PC to redetect the device. Open iTunes and hopefully, you’re back in business.

Hope this helps. We are still looking into fixes for this issue–so far Apple is silent on it, unfortunately!

Comment on Visual Voicemail Not Working on iPhone 6; How-To by SK Fri, 24 Mar 2017 17:53:03 +0000 Hi Sherry,
Congrats on new iPhone 6S–that’s a great iPhone! Visual Voicemail is a carrier feature and is not available unless Cellular Data is on. It’s possible that you’re simply out of range, thus rendering the visual voicemail feature completely inaccessible

Here’s a couple of additional things for you to try (try these one at a time–not all at once):

Turn off Cellular Data, wait 20-30 seconds, and then turn it back on

Turn Airplane mode On, and off

    Reset Network Settings

Hard reboot by pushing the home button and power button simultaneously and hold until Apple logo appears

As far as the flash notification, the iPhone doesn’t include a dedicated notification light. But there is a setting in accessibility that you can turn on to receive LED Flash for Alerts. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Scroll down to the Hearing section and select LED Flash for Alerts. Toggle this feature ON for both LED FLASH for alerts and Flash on Silent.

Hope one of these tips work for you.

Comment on Cant Play Videos after iOS 10.2 Update, How-To by SK Fri, 24 Mar 2017 17:33:23 +0000 Hi Ray,

Sorry to hear about your troubles with iOS 10.2’s TV App. Unfortunately, quite a few of our readers experience similar problems with this new app. Hopefully, things improve with the next iOS release 10.3–expected any day now. In the meantime, try this for the blank screen–it’s worked for some folks!

Is Your TV App Showing a White Screen?

Go to Settings>Wifi, and toggle WiFi OFF
Go to the TV app, and tap to open it. A video should switch on automatically
Go to Settings>WiFi, and toggle WiFi back ON again. Videos should now work again

One other suggestion is to sign out of your Apple ID, restart your iPhone or iDevice, and then sign back in with your Apple ID. For some, this makes a difference.

Best of luck,

Comment on Q&A – Upgrading To a New iPhone, Should I Encrypt Backups? by SK Fri, 24 Mar 2017 17:26:19 +0000 Hi Anaratz,

Thanks for asking the question! Encrypting your iPhone data should not impact any carrier settings, SIM, etc. We’ve never had any reports of problems using an encrypted backup when restoring data to a new iPhone on a new carrier. These encryptions happen on Apple’s side of the fence, not the carriers. I’m really happy to hear you are planning a backup strategy–that’s fantastic.

And remember once iOS 10.3 comes out, be sure to backup again before updating as this iOS update includes updating your iPhone to apple’s newest file system (APFS). There’s been no reports of problems with the transition from the current file system (HFS+) to APFS but it’s always good to backup before an update and especially this one since the file system is changing. If possible, try backing up to both iTunes (with encryption) and iCloud–that way your data is secured in two places–just in case.

Keep us posted on your experience and your new iPhone! Congrats.

Comment on Q&A – Upgrading To a New iPhone, Should I Encrypt Backups? by anaratz Fri, 24 Mar 2017 15:01:30 +0000 Hi There,
Am looking to upgrade to new iPhone (inc. new carrier & sim) and starting to plan a backup strategy.

Is it safe to assume that using the Encrypted Backup (from my old iPhone) to restore data and settings to the new phone won’t overwrite anything that could break the phone, e.g the carrier settings of the new sim etc?

Comment on iPhone could not backup because backup file was corrupt or not compatible, fix by Martijn Thu, 23 Mar 2017 22:01:01 +0000 Today I was playing with a backup with the same issue. My backup seems to be not complete because manifest files (info.plist, status.plist, manifest.plist, manifest.mbdb, and manifest.mbdx.) are missing

I recovered almost all pictures! What did I see when I was checking the files in the backup:

– Files in the backup do not have an extension.

– Filenames are very long

What I found out was that when I was changing a file with “b720d84892451b1b845ffe5076a4cb34e923aa5d” to “b720d84892451b1b845ffe5076a4cb34e923aa5d.jpg”, the picture could be opened.

I downloaded TrID and TrIDDefs from the web

I copied all files from all directories of the backup to a single directory C:\TEMP

I copied TrID, as also the TrIDDefs in the same directory with the 1000s of files.

Opened command prompt CMD and went to C:\TEMP

Typed TrID * -ce

This small program is changing file extensions for all files.

Pictures will be .jpg, movies .3gg, etc. etc.

Since I was only interested in the pictures I was glad to have them back. But then they are called: b720d84892451b1b845ffe5076a4cb34e923aa5d.jpg

Then I downloaded Namexif via http from the web

With this program, it is possible to rename all jpg foto’s to a date as stored in the EXIF data of the pictures.

Now all pictures with EXIF data (self-made pictures) are now named like “2017-03-23 22h51m22.jpg”

This is good enough for me. I have my pictures back. That was the main goal.

Hopefully, this also helps for you!
