Factors that can exacerbate this issue or cause it in conjunction with the Mac OS X 10.6.3 update include Adobe Flash, Spotlight problems and outdated drivers, and problematic startup/login items.
Regardless, the most effective fix thus far has been a downgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.2.
Now we’ve received word that the forthcoming Mac OS X 10.6.4 includes new IOUSB files that resolve the freezes/stalls under most circumstances. We expect this update to be released later this month.

Just for Rampant USB Keyboard ?

Hi, I hope everybody reads this who has a problem with a freezing cursor on their Macs. I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player, which I am informed by others may have caused the sticking cursor problem. I then installed Adobe Flash Player 10.1, and the problem has not returned. If I am right, please send me some money. Just joking.

Well, I read that Mac 10.6.4 would fix rampant keyboard/mouse freezes. It doesn’t. since I am running 10.6.4, and the mouse freezes rather frequently on all sites.

Well, it’s Christmas, and I hope Santa will fix the freezing cursor on my Macbook Pro 10.6.4. I’ve been a good boy and haven’t thrown the Mac in the trash. But, since I’m paying $100.00 a month for it, I’m still hoping that Santa will have pity.

In the 3 years I’ve owned my iMac 20″ while religiously applying system updates from Apple, I had never had a system freeze until I upgraded to 10.6.3. I tried everything published here on this site and other sites to resolve the problem and ultimately resolved by downgrading to 10.6.2. I’m going to try going to 10.6.4 to see what happens.

Apparently this issue exists on 10.6.4 also. I never had issues with 10.6.3/2 but now I have the same problem in both my macbook and iMac!!!
And it came ‘out’ of the closet at the same exact moment…
weird

So this is really strange> My mac book pro aluminum has the same symptoms as above. I can close the lid and reopen it and the mouse will act ok for a little while. The mac support had me reinstall the OS over top of the existing OS. Made no difference. I can also use a external mouse, is acts fine.

Well, some say this freeze affects only newer Macs. Not so, my ’07 iMac running 10.6.3 is affected as well. Started having freezing after the OS update. Flash versions seemed to have affected it. I just went for 4 days w/o a freeze after installing the latest pre-release flash plug-in. Unusual as I would freeze several times a day. Keeping fingers crossed, but can’t wait for 10.6.4 to come out. Not going to downgrade at this point if we’re within 2 weeks of release.

Not sure downgrade will help. I have this problem on 10.6.2 and core solo mini as well. Probably not so foten as on new version.
