So you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch; you’ve set up Cydia, and installed sources, and you know how to download packages, so what do you do now?
You need to find the best, must-have apps that are available on Cydia; but that task is a long and arduous one, and jailbreaking-newbies may have trouble finding the best packages. Fortunately, I’m here to help (you’re welcome), so let’s get started.
SBSettings is one of the most useful packages on Cydia, it provides an overlay with toggles for various actions including: brightness, wifi, data, bluetooth, airplane mode, etc. It’s completely free, comes on one of the several pre-installed Cydia repositories, and there are plenty of toggles and themes that can be installed later.
Winterboard is a powerful theming application. It allows you to customize almost any part of your device with custom themes, fonts, and images. It is one of the few packages that has been around (in one form or another) since the very beginning of jailbreaking. Winterboard is easy to find and install because its another package that’s included in one of Cydia’s pre-install repositories.
Honestly, one of the biggest things in Cydia is emulators. Whether you want to play an old NES, Gameboy, or even Sega Genesis game; you wont have trouble finding emulators in Cydia. There are multiple versions of most emulators, some that are free trials, some that are completely free, and some nicely designed one’s that’re only a couple bucks. Emulators are relatively easy to find because most repositories (including the one’s pre-installed) have them floating around.
These packages are the definitely must-have packages. They show the what jailbreaking is all about, and anyone who has jail broken their iOS device and doesn’t have these app… you’re crazy. Soon, I’ll have more must-haves from the world of Cydia! Until then… happy hacking!
