North Korea is a dictatorship. It is highly centralized and the most closed society to the outside world. Even though the majority of North Koreans do not drive or have access to the Internet and they do not own smart phones or other electronic devices, the elite minority who have access to those luxuries (cars, Internet, iPhone etc) can now use Google Maps to get driving directions. As you can see from the screenshots below, you can use Google Maps to plan your trips between a limited number of places in North Korea.
Although Google Maps shows options for Traffic, Bicycle Route and Public Transit, these features are not yet available.
Apple’s Map app, as of now, does not offer any mapping features in North Korea. When you type a location in the iOS Map app, it will say “Directions Not Available”.
