Samsung Ring to Watch

Samsung’s Wearable Ring to Challenge Apple Watch?

By SK 0 comments Last updated December 1, 2017

The wearables market is once again getting hot and attracting competitive momentum. Apple’s recent Series 3 watch release has attracted a lot of ifolks back into the wearables space.

Consumers who were sitting on the fence for a long time have finally jumped onto the Apple Watch band bandwagon. Reports estimate that 70% of the Apple Watch Series 3 buyers are new to the watch platform. 80% of these buyers were compelled by the flexibility option that cellular functionality brings to the new Apple Watch model.

Although Fitbit showed improved sales in Q-2, the company is still engulfed in dealing with issues. On the other hand, Samsung with its huge financial resources is once again eyeing to position itself in this product category with new innovation.

Samsung’s new patents D800,721 and D800,722 were approved today. These patents centered on the wearable category show a radical shift in product design thinking.

The new design showcases a wearable product that looks more like an ornamental ring. Think of it as a Superbowl ring, but this time it has all the latest gadgetry of a wearable.

What if you really don’t like wearing the ring and rather preferred something to wrap around your wrist (but not a watch)

Samsung thinks they have that covered for you.

The other patent D800,722 exactly addresses this in the case you do find yourself looking for a wrist thing for your ring.

You can remove the wearable ring and attach it to a wristband and prominently feature it as your new fashionable device.

Personally, I have never sported a ring since I have always found it very uncomfortable. Would you sport a wearable that is designed as a ring?

Apple’s products have always been more than just radical design. They have always been easy to use for a new consumer and it is the software that makes things more appealing. It’s not what the device looks like but what you can actually do with the device without loosing your privacy and peace of mind.

The bottom line is that Wearables as a product category will see renewed momentum in the years ahead and there is bound to be new and radical designs out there to challenge the dominance of Apple Watch.
