Let’s start with the smallest improvement and work our way up. Siri has always been excellent for keeping track of live sports results — now she’s even better thanks to the addition of Motorsports. Get live standings, results, schedules, rosters, and statistics on a number of motorsports by simply asking Siri what you want to know.
2. Celebrity Facts
Everybody’s best friend on quiz night, Siri is perfect for ending late-night pub debates. But with iOS 12 her database of celebrity facts becomes even more comprehensive. Ask the personal assistant any of your queries about celebs, such as their latest release or their hometown. Siri will be sure to have the answers for you.
Although most don’t realize it, Siri’s an exceptional translator. She’s can already accurately translate into multiple different languages, but with iOS 12 she’ll be able to handle 40 new language pairs! This will make your next trip abroad even easier. Don’t struggle with the language barrier, simple ask Siri to translate back and forth for you.
4. Food Knowledge
I think we all wish we ate healthier, but nutrition isn’t easy. And keeping track of what’s in the foods you eat is even harder. Well, Siri improvements on iOS 12 are going to make it a whole lot simpler. Ask Siri about the contents of your food, from calories to caffeine content — she’ll look up the answers in the USDA database and tell you how healthy your food is.
iOS 12 gives Siri secure access to all your saved passwords. In true Apple form, these passwords won’t leave your phone and won’t be available to Apple or anyone else. But they will be easily accessible to you anytime you need them. Ask Siri for the password to your email account, for example, and she’ll quickly look it up for you. Don’t worry, she’ll always confirm your identity before divulging such private information.
6. Photos Memories Search
Alongside a slew of other camera and photo improvements on iOS 12, Siri will gain the ability to search through your photo memories and locate the exact pictures that you ask for. With iOS 12, she’ll can filter your photos by people, places, events, or time. You can even ask Siri to show you pictures of particular objects or scenes in your photo library: “Show me my photos of a llama.”
7. New Shortcuts App
The final improvements on this post are all about a new iOS 12 feature called Shortcuts. Using the new Shortcuts app utilizes Siri allowing you to create easy ways to complete multiple tasks at once. You can even create Shortcuts working across third-party apps. The broad possibilities of this feature are best shown with an example:
Let’s imagine a Shortcut called “Home Time” that we’ll use when we finish work. When activated, it could use Siri to complete the following tasks:
- Turn off Do Not Disturb mode
- Send a text saying: “I’m on my way home.”
- Open the Maps app with directions home
- Start playing some music for the ride home
This is just one example of how powerful the new Shortcuts app could be.
8. Add to Siri
Not only does iOS 12 introduce the exciting new Shortcuts app, but it allows you to add those Shortcuts to Siri for easy access. You can choose exactly what you need to say to activate each of the Shortcuts, tailoring the trigger phrase to something memorable for you. In the example above, we could activate our Shortcut by saying: “Hey Siri, it’s home time.” She’ll know exactly what to do.
9. Shortcuts API
The new Shortcuts feature allows streamlined use of iOS 12 devices. That functionality is even available to App Developers who can work with Siri, using a new SiriKit API, to activate all the Shortcuts they need. Everybody’s life is gonna get easier with this new improvement.
10. Siri Suggestions
Not only is it possible to create useful Shortcuts in the app, but Siri will also analyze how you use your device and suggest useful shortcuts to create. This makes the process even simpler! By learning your routine, Siri is able to suggest shortcuts to make your life easier. They’ll even be available to you on the lock screen at the times you usually need them.
So that’s everything for Siri improvements on iOS 12. From additional sports results to game-changing Shortcut capabilities — these updates are sure to breathe new life into your personal assistant.
