iOS 12 has been out for quite some time now, but it seems that folks are still finding new features. Of course, since the beta program is still in progress, this means that Apple is still trying new things.

One such instance comes in the form of the “Remote Control” section in Apple’s Podcasts app. With previous iterations of iOS 12, there was a section which allowed you to either skip forward within an episode, instead of playing the next one in the queue.
With the release of Public Beta 5 of iOS 12, this has been changed. The new section is named “Headphones and Car”. From here, there are two options:
- Skip Forward/Back
Of course, it’s not much different, other than the new name of the section and that the option is no longer just a toggle. Instead, you’ll have to manually pick which option you want to be selected.
Additionally, Apple is making it possible to perform either task with your headphones or if you are connected to your car. There were some folks who updated to Beta 5 of iOS 12 and were “confused” by exactly what was going on.
So in order to change the settings yourself, here is what you will need to do:
- Open the Settings app
- Scroll down and select Podcasts
- Scroll down and tap either “Next/Previous” or “Skip Forward/Back“
- Go back to the Home Page
Moving forward, you will then be able to skip ahead within the episode, or automatically skip to the next podcast in the queue. Of course, this could change before the final release of iOS 12, so we’ll be sure to keep our eyes peeled in the future.
This update just goes to show that nothing is set in stone, and that Apple is really looking over every aspect of iOS 12. What is a bit surprising is that this is an iOS update inclusion and not just an update to the Podcasts app itself.
If you have run into issues with the Podcasts app, then sound off in the comments below and we’ll be more than happy to assist. In the meantime, if you are running the latest iOS 12 beta and see anything other changes let us know!
