My husband somehow syned (not sure if this is the correct term) his iPhone and our sons ipad and the ipad has over 10,000 photos on it and has no more space for updates or new apps. Is there a way to safely remove all my husbands photos from the ipad to free up space?

It depends on if your husband uses iCloud Photo Library and if you want to keep those photos on his account.
If you want to preserve the photos but don’t want them on the iPhone AND you own a computer (MAC or Windows), you can transfer all those photos to the computer and then delete them from the iPhone.
If you don’t own a computer or don’t want to store those photos there, consider using Google Photos and upload them to that account–then delete them from the iPhone. If you’re an Amazon Prime Member, your membership allows for unlimited photo storage (with some image compression). Download the Amazon Photos App and upload them to that account before deleting from the iPhone.
If you don’t want to keep the photos, delete them normally from the iPhone and then make sure you check the Recently Deleted Album and clear out all the photos from there. If you don’t clear out that Recently Deleted Album, those photos remain for 30 days before they clear out automatically.

Thanks for the help.
So If I understand correctly the only way to do this is to save any photos we want to keep and then manually delete them from the ipad – if I delete them from the ipad will it also delete them from the iPhone? I think my husband has turned off the icloud feature on his phone so that new photos he takes in his phone don’t appear on the ipad.
Thanks for your help!
