fRANKiPad keeps asking for i cloud password for an old or unavailable Apple ID.
Cannot change things in the cloud. Cannot turn off ” Find My iPhone ” to do a clean restore.
iPad was purchased new only 3 days ago and apparently the backup from my other iPad was corrupt
How can I get rid of the bad ID and retake control of my things in the cloudHi Frank,
The first thing we recommend you try is using the old Apple ID from your previous device. If you already did this or if it did not work, since your iPad was a recent (very recent) purchase, we suggest calling Apple Support to resolve this issue. Have your sales receipt and serial number available so they can verify your purchase. If an Apple Store is nearby, call the store and set-up an appointment. If not, call Support (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201232)
Alternatively, you can try to set-up a temporary Apple ID with the following steps:
Sign in to your Apple ID account
Click Edit in the Account section then Change Email Address
Change your Apple ID to the email address that iCloud is asking you to sign in with
Sign out of your account page
Then sign out of iCloud on your iPad
Tap Settings > iCloud on your iPad
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device], and enter the password for your Apple ID. Your data remains in iCloud and is updated on your device when you sign into iCloud
If you’re signed in on more than one device with this Apple ID, Repeat steps 1-3 for each device
THEN go to your Apple ID account page, and sign in again
Change your Apple ID to the email address that you want to use. You’ll need to verify the email address
Tap Settings > iCloud on your iPad and sign in with your new Apple ID
If these steps don’t work, change your Apple ID temporarily again. Then sign back into your Apple ID account page to make sure that your Apple ID changed
