Some of the app icons on my daughter’s ipad have recently turned into white squares, some with names displayed as normal underneath but some the names are changed, such as Netflix which now appears as ‘Argo’?? We have tried reinstalling the apps, but they only get so far before saying they cannot be installed at this time.
We have tried a reboot (holding the power and home buttons together for 10 secs) and deleted unused apps to create more space as it said storage was low, but to no avail. She is particularly upset about the Minecraft app which will lose all the saved ‘worlds’ if it is uninstalled (apparently!).
Any help appreciated, but I’m not so up on tech lingo so small words please 🙂 Thanks lots in advance.

Try the following:
Check Settings > General > Accessibility >Grayscale. If it is turned on, just turn it off.
Some readers found these tips also helpful:
Fix all the icons at the same time by turning off the Passcode Lock, reset iPad, turn Passcode back on.
Reset Network Settings and then Restart the iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All)
What I did to resolve the issue is put the affected apps into a folder and the icons come back. Not sure why, I guess it refreshes them or something.
Hope one of these fixes your issue!

Hey, Mandy, I had this happen on small and medium enterprises too. If SK’s solution doesn’t work, you can just do a hard reset (hold home and power buttons) and it will go back to normal too.

I have the same issue. A couple of my most used icons went white squares a few days ago. None of the above fixes worked
