I thought all the material I have in iBooks was (downloaded) on my iPad.
But when I turned iCloud off, only a few items were visible, why?
I have gathered material on this iPad for 3 years and thought it was permanent in my iBooks.
I want to be able to have all my material visible to me all the time. Even if iCloud or a internet connection isn’t available.
What do I have to do to make that possible?
Thank you for your help.

Since your books disappeared when you turned off iCloud, that more than likely means they were not stored locally on your iPad but rather on iCloud.
To retrieve your iBooks, tap the menu at the top of the screen (All Books, Books, PDFs, or your collection named), then tap Hide iCloud Books at the bottom of the pop-up menu to turn it off. Then tap on books that appear in your library with a cloud icon in the upper-right corner to download from iCloud to your iPad.

Thank you for your reply. I turned iCloud back ON IN SYSTEM. Then….I did what you suggested, clicked on the download icon (cloud with down arrow). Downloaded all the material in iBooks, moved the icon to show ‘hide iCloud books’ all the books were visible. Thought I had everything downloaded.
I went into my System, on iPad, turned OFF iCloud again, went back to iBooks and All the downloads were gone again!!!
The icon in iBooks was off, meaning it was not hiding books from iCloud’
Had to go back to IPad System and turn iCloud back ON.
Now it’s showing a cloud again above all the material I had spent considerable time downloading earlier.
If I don’t have iCloud turned ON IN SYSTEM, my iBooks don’t show.
I can’t seem to get them downloaded, what do I do now?
