Updated my iPhone 6 to latest software yesterday. Everything seemed fine at first. However, today I cannot open websites in safari. I have cleared history and reset all settings. Google search works, I just can’t open any of the sites Google search finds. Facebook and YouTube work fine. What can I do to get safari working?
- March 27, 2016 at 2:32 PM #31157
I have the same problem with Safari since yesterday, except that I have not upgraded to the latest software yet. Google will search fine but then none of the sites will open when clicked on.

I have iPhone 5s running 9.2.1 Safari has just stopped loading sites tonight and freezes if you hold on to the website link. I have 9.2.1 running in my iPad mini and all seems ok so far. All websites affected show padlock symbol in the bar and affects everything from news sites to shopping sites. Only started tonight I’ve tried turning off Java and resting phone no luck!

I’ve been having the same problem as above since yesterday 27th March 2016. Safari browser on IPad and IPhone will search for pages but will not load them. I have not updated to the latest operating system, as I keep receiving message ‘ unable to verify not connected to internet’ despite the fact that the Wifi and Internet are working. Can search internet on same devices using Google and Yahoo apps. So its clearly Safari that is the problem. Any chance of someone from Apple providing an answer. the various forums seem to be highlighting this as a problem but I’m not seeing any acknowledgements or suggested fixes ? Thanking you in anticipation .

If you click on a search with a website address underneath it, Safari freezes or nothing happens
- March 28, 2016 at 5:34 PM #31187
I may a very bad decison to upgrade to IOS 9.3. I usually try to update to ensure that embeeded security is up to date. However since the upgrade I cannot use Safari. I have switched off Java as recommended until Apple works out a fix. Meanwhile I can only use my ipad mini (latest model) to get email. I cannot click on any link within an email. I cannot go to any link on a website or use Safari except to do an initial search. It has rendered my ipad mini virtually useless. Thank god I have not yet upgraded my iphone. This is so bad Apple. I could never honestly recommend Apple now. You have let down your loyal Users so badly. Apple has damaged its reputation with the this release.

My work around til apple figure it out is (using Chrome app) hold finger on link, select “open in new tab”. Works for me. Get lots of tabs but that’s ok – at least I can still search without disabling Java functionality (which also worked for me in Safari but is a pain)

Hi did anyone suss out how to connect to Safari. It’s driving me nuts. Works on Mac and iphone but not ipad Air.
- August 11, 2016 at 7:16 PM #34411
Download and use Puffin. It works for me on my iPad Air. I teach, and my curriclum runs on a website that is Flash-based. The ONLY way I have been able to get Apple and even some Galaxy Tabs to work on this website is with Puffin. It’s a bit wonky, granted, but it runs. Likewise with Google. My school district runs many of its functions through Google sites. Aside from my Google drive files, I can only access the other functions of the district’s Google site on Puffin. There are ways to get around some of the Apple-Google-Microsoft proprietary realms. Sometimes it doesn’t work as smoothly, but it’s better than nothing. Don’t get too tied down to Safari. It’s not often the right answer.

Figured it out. I just had to erase and then reinput all of my wifi info into my phone.
- August 15, 2016 at 7:12 AM #34437
Just downloaded 9.3.4 on my iPhone 5, now I can’t view websites. Google will work and search, but then the link to the site gives me an error that the server is missing – when on my wifi. Turn off the wifi and go to LTE and everything works. However, it can’t be my wifi, because I watch Hulu through my Wii and I’m surfing with my mac book pro right now – all using wifi. It’s obviously something in the 9.3.4 update.

Having the same problem. As far I know no new update since the last time i used my iPad. I also find it curious that soooo many people are having this problem and there is no answer from Apple!?!?!

iPad mini running 8.4.1 running Safari suddenly will not load any selected Google image as of 27 Oct 2016.
‘Open’ and ‘Open in Separate Tab’ just produce a blank image.
Same with older standard size iPad running 8.4
Same with MacBook Pro running iOS 10.9.5 Mavericks and Safari.
However Google search via Firefox on MacBook Pro can still select an image.

Just upgraded new Apple software 11/14/16 and now Safari won’t open at all, yet Google search app works fine (and how I got to this site). Why should we trust upgrades to the entire operating systems when this is the result? So, what is the fix???
- December 19, 2016 at 11:10 AM #36824
From iPad Air and iPhone 6, cannot access walmart’s MasterCard website through Safari using Google but it works through Bing. IOS 10.1.1.
- December 27, 2016 at 6:23 PM #36942
no connection with anything Apple this morning on Mac Air iOS 10.2 – Safari loads but links won’t. App store won’t open, neither will iMusic store. The only thing I did late yesterday was to upgrade my iCloud storage.
What’s going on and how do I fix it?
- December 27, 2016 at 6:24 PM #36927
I just bought a brand new 12″ iPad Pro and it connects to my home wifi but cannot access any web site using safari EXCEPT for google.com. Once I connect to google.com, I cannot access any of the items found in my search.
All the other devices in my house, iphones, ipad, Windows PC’s etc have no issues connecting to anything using the wifi.
What could be causing this?

I FOUND MY PROBLEM AND SOLUTION!
The Problem: I forgot I set my time in my iPad to 5 days earlier for totally not cheating. It messed up the algorithm and history of the websites.
The Solution: Obviously, set the date to present.

Set your device to use a Xfinity router- this problem is shrouded in mystery because it forces you to use Xfinity routers for your device to go through to a site, yeah Google works fine but not the results. Do Not bother with all the settings bs! Flash/
Flash/on-off, Safari options, resetting the phone, erasing the phone, I got Limited results from that, it seems to have allowed me to go onto Xfinity routers since I did the reset.
I have access to the Internet in order to do a full reset because it usually asks you for your iCloud identification ID and that needs to be checked over the Internet!
So I had to buy a little bit of data in order to even do the reset options because the say that it goes to do the confirmation when you go to do a reset is one of the sites that won’t work but it’s not that it won’t work at all it’s that it won’t work on Wi-Fi this doesn’t seem to be a problem with data which is the other extremely suspicious thing I haven’t heard of anybody with a brand-new iPhone having this issue at all.
It’s with the older phone six, and it just seems to be a whole new problem a whole new way but the problem every time the phones come out if you don’t have access to a Xfinity router I don’t know what to tell you because that’s what worked for me and because I have a Xfinity account, I’m able to sign into Xfinity router. I don’t have the router myself because I don’t play that game Xfinity wants you to use their router service.
I’m not going to use their router that you got to pay the rent on the router, That’s another big scam, so I bought my own router, so you don’t have to pay that monthly rent on it if you look on your bill they’re charging you for that! So yes, just so you guys know that this does seem to be a problem with the routers

Wal-Mart website does NOT allow you to change from shipping to store pick-up. I am told over and over again to change my browser, which I do NOT, for security reasons, want to do. Citibank won’t sign you out of your account properly and gives you a message that their website is down. There are other sites too many to remember. WHY can’t this be fixed at Safari’s level?
- February 18, 2018 at 10:55 AM #47476
Same issues as everyone else. Next bought MacAir and can’t get a link to the sites after searching via Bing. Can’t get Google Chrome to load. Doesn’t look like anyone from Apple has addressed any of these issues from the past couple years.
