I cannot access Safari due to a 3rd party issue. I have to call 1 866 537 7060. Do I have to purchase a virus scan to correct this problem?

Just clear safari’s cookies and website data

The same thing just happened to me when a Safari-looking warning popped up with the message “your OS has crashed due to a 3rd party issue, please call 1 866 537 7060…”
Thinking it suspicious but since my Safari was frozen (though not the rest of my Mac), I used my iPad to look up 1 866 537 7060 and came to this thread.
Alas I couldn’t clear Safari’s cookies & website data because it was frozen, so I force quit it.
When I relaunched it, I cleared the cookies & website data.
But I’d like to know what causes this issue, and how I may prevent it from happening again.

My Snow Leopard will not start up! I purchased it from a third party, so I don’t have the installation disk. It was fully upgraded except for an iTunes update. What should I do?

I, too, have had this happen. Is there malware on my computer? I reset the cookies and everything works, but are there issues I should be concerned with?

I had the same pop up come up on my computer and said OS has crashed and I called them, the agent fixed it but I’m leary because it has team viewer on my desktop which makes me feel like they can access my info when they want and I 30 day money back guarenteed coverage, I know basic computer terminology, but doesn’t sit well with me. I am going to have them refund me since it just happened tonight/morning, now that I was able to look up the number and see what was going on.
Other than me calling back and getting refund or stop payment on the transaction what should I do?
This has never happened to me before.

It’s a scam.
I almost fell for it but the guy was a little too persistent and something in my gut told me he was a scammer. I called the little a$$hole a scammer and he got all irate on me. I told him I was reporting him…and I am! You should do the same!
This is what I did to get rid of his annoying pop up: force quit Safari, turn off wifi/internet, hold shift key while starting Safari again.

Safari is no longer on any of my main pages. I went to general and it is not listed. It is in my cloud, but I can’t figure out how to get it back on main pages and make it work again.
