Healthy living: New year, Apps to download on Apple Watch to live better

For many, the arrival of a new year means it’s time to get healthier, both physically and mentally. To make 2020 your best year yet, consider using these health-related apps for Apple Watch.

Mind

These three apps concentrate on making your mind clearer and more relaxed after long work days.

10% Happier: Meditation

Created by ABC News correspondent Dan Harris, 10% Happier was first introduced in 2014 as a self-help book. The freemium app by the same name offers a clear, simple approach to mediation. It does so by offering 500+ videos and guided meditations through a monthly subscription.

10% Happier

With the 10% Happier Apple Watch app, you can access your daily mediation from your wrist. You’ll also find a link to the daily mediation activity from the Siri watch face. Just tap on the link on your watch to begin.

Fabulous – Daily Motivation

Building healthy habits is often a part of New Year’s resolutions. With this in mind, the freemium Fabulous app has been designed to build healthy rituals into your life, just like an elite athlete. After setting up your profile in the Fabulous iPhone app and setting up healthy habits you’d like to begin following, you can use the Apple Watch app to keep track of your journey.

Among the healthy habits you can strive to complete each day are walking, reading, taking a power nap, and much more. Once scheduled, the app will remind you to stay on taste. When you achieve a goal for the day, check it off using the Fabulous Apple Watch app.

Headspace: Mediation

This is another freemium medication app that works well on iPhone and Apple Watch. To date, however, the watch version isn’t tied in any way to your existing Headspace account, premium or otherwise. Instead, you’re offered two mediation choices on Apple Watch: SOS and Touch.

headspace

SOS exercises are ideally suited for those times when you might have a sudden meltdown, while the touch exercise is intended for those times when you want to relax and calm a busy mind.

Body

In 2019, you can eat better, exercise more, and make your heart much healthy using the following apps.

HeartWatch

Here’s an app that could save your life. With HeartWatch, you know how your heart is doing, 24 hours a day. With Apple Watch support, much of what makes HeartWatch great has been extended to the wrist. Best of all, there’s no setup required; once the app has been installed on your iPhone, it’s also available on your Apple Watch.

HeartWatch app

On the HeartWatch app for Apple Watch, you’ll find heart badges, which are simple, glanceable graphics that let you know how your heart is doing, and workouts, which you can use without your iPhone. HeartWatch also includes complications, so you can check your heart rate regularly and track your sleep.

Lifesum: Diet Plans & Recipes

The Lifesum app offers meal plans and a food-tracking guide. It also keeps track of water consumption and exercise routines. The Apple Watch app gives you the ability to track those metrics without your phone.

Customize the Apple Watch app on iPhone:

  1. You can customize Lifesum on Apple Watch by adjusting the type of information that’s available. To do so, tap on the Settings icon on the Me tab.
  2. Tap Apple Watch.
  3. On the next screen, decide what information you’d like to see on Apple Watch. Choices include Eat, Drink, Stretch, Move, and Rest.

On Apple Watch, there are three screens on Lifesum:

  • The main screen shows a calorie overview, macros for the day (carbs, proteins, etc.), and meal ratings.
  • On the second screen, you’ll see an animated apple character that offers daily tips for drinking more water. Swipe up to track water intake.
  • Finally, on the third screen, you’ll see an overview of how well you’re during as it relates to drink, eat, rest, move, and stretch.

Nike Run Club

No, you don’t need a Nike+ Apple Watch to use most of the tools that come with that model. Instead, download the free Nike Run Club app and get ready to join others at getting into shape. The free app offers audio guided running workouts, weekly and monthly distance challenges to keep you motivated, GPS tracking of your runs, and much more.

Nike Run Club app

With the Nike Run Club Apple Watch app, you can start, pause, and end your workouts, use one of the many Nike complications, and much more.

Seven – 7 Minute Workout

Quick bodyweight exercises are the star of this freemium app that has long been a popular choice on the App Store. As the app’s name suggests, the total workout time here is just seven minutes. Through membership, you can select from hundreds of activities that have been designed to help you achieve your goal. For example, you’ll find exercises that focus on full body, calorie burn, fat burn, and much more.

seven app

With the Seven Apple Watch app, you can bring your favorite exercises to your wrist. Just tap on the exercise to get started. From there, you can see your progress, check your heart rate, and more.

Standland

If you own an Apple Watch, you already know that standing once every hour for a minute at least 12 times is one of the device’s three built-in daily fitness goals. The freemium Standland app makes achieving that goal more fun by adding 15 adorable 3D companions to the mix. You can collect these creatures (and the nine 3D worlds they inhibit) by achieving these goals.

standland

On Apple Watch, you can use the Standland app to review whether your creature is active or dormant (this depends on whether you’re standing or not) and how close you are to achieving your daily goal.

Waterminder

Drinking lots of water each day is a crucial component to healthy living. With Waterminder, keeping track of your fluid intake is simple. You can also use the app to see your water consumption at a glance, view a 2-week history graph, and view your achievements. With Apple Watch complications, you can see how close you are towards achieving your daily goal.

To record water consumption on the Apple Watch app:

  1. Tap on the Waterminder app.
  2. Select how many ounces of water you have consumed using the list of choices or tap Other to change the type and volume of liquid.

Let’s roll

You don’t need to use all of the apps mentioned above, just the ones that will help you to achieve your goals. Although most of the ones listed require a premium subscription to use all of the features, free trial memberships are available for new users. Which Apple Watch fitness apps do you use? Let us know below.

And Happy 2019!
