iPhone 4s call failed, how to fix

By SK 92 comments Last updated January 2, 2023

Several users have reported problems when trying to make a call. The reported problems include, but are not limited to, call failing and no sound.

Fix

There has been similar Siri related problems with outgoing calls where there is no sound while a connection is established. It has been reported that updating to the latest iOS fixes this problem.

If you have a call failing issue and updating your iOS does not fix your problem, try each of these steps until you resolve your issue:

  • Make sure that you are in range of the cell network by checking cell signal indicator bars.
  • Reset your network by tapping  Settings > General > Network
  • Reset your iPhone by holding down the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears
  • Try Settings > phone > show my caller ID. Just visit and let the device load your settings.
  • Try disabling airline mode.

Now kind of dout anyone is going to scroll all the way down here but if you’re reading this you probably have so I have read and tried every single solution up there and none of hem worked for me. Mostly everyone is probably going to ignore this but could some one please please PLEASE help. I have backup and restored, dialled *#31#, reset, reboot restart and all that junk, I’ve manually adjusted the time, I’ve taken out and reinserted the SIM card, switched on show caller id, toggled do not disturb, checked the blocked numbers, connected to the computer with iTunes, I can’t think of anything else but I know there was more so if anyone could I would a appreciate the help. Also maybe one of these things would work for you, some people say it’s just the hardware •__• but if anyone wants to help or just for some reason wants to know about my iPhone, it’s a 4s, has iOS 8.4.1, everything works fine except the call and every time I try to call it says calling then call end and call failed all without any sound. That’s all I can think of, sorry for wasting your time if I did and if you ha to scroll all the way down here you’re probably not even reading this and I’m probably not helping by making it longer (sorry again) but if anyone could help, I would still appreciate it and thanks for helping (if you did).

I tried the last option of caller id and it worked. Although in some network the called id is blocked to on position when you cannot still going to that helps avoiding the error of call failed.. Goodluck!!

      Hello,

I understand your pain, as I also went through almost everything on the internet just to find out what was making my phone go wacko, and I found a solution! I’m hoping it’ll solve your problem too 🙂

What I did was I turned on Airplane Mode and went to Settings > Phone > Show Caller ID and turned it on.

By default, the “Show Caller ID” Option on my phone was greyed out and was on, but still the problem persisted. So by turning airplane mode on and enabling it (because it was off in Airplane Mode) I’m able to make calls!

You can also try resetting your date and time, just like the earlier comments suggested 🙂

    It works.

Mine is an old 3GS phone.

    1. I set the manual date and time (Settings > date and Time > Manual date and time
    2. Set My called Id as well as it was off and left blank (Settings > Phone> Show my caller ID (this was left blank as I had reset all settings. Also, my phone number was not inputted, so i did that and its working fine)

Thanks to this forum, my Monday and subsequently the entire week would have been otherwise ruined coz i thought that this problem is from a loose wiring or a scratch on the SIM

Nothing is working for me. The only thing I haven’t tried is restoring my iPhone. I’m hesitant to do so because of losing everything. Bottom line, I’ll never buy a product from Apple again. Too many issues, starting with the power button getting stuck and unable to work.

I have had the same problem, tried absolutely everything and it’s infuriating. The fact that this is clearly an iPhone issue and that it’s been going on for ages without apple paying any attention makes me want to start an anti-iPhone revolution. They need to take care of their customers not just ride on profits from loyal followers. Anyhow, reading through all the fixes, I only found one that works for me… Turning off the 3G. When I turn it off, I’m able to make calls again. It’s not ideal, but while I’m still locked into this contract it will have to do. For now, I’m working on transferring everything from my iPhone elsewhere so that I’m ready to change when my upgrade is due. It’s been increasingly unreliable with notes and numbers being lost when the last update was done. Anyhow, enough ranting, good luck!

I inserted my sim into my colleagues phone in order to verify whether it was a sim problem or iphone issue.

I am with tmobile and have the 4s, phone displays full signal and has the operator name on screen. Calls fail and no incoming calls can get through. The only way I can fix this is by turning phone off and on. As the phone displays signal as full when it actually is not connected to the network, I can not tell there is a problem until someone tells me my phone is off or I try to make a call and get the call failed message. Complained to tmobile tested new sim still problem. Tested sim in other phone not apple, no problems. Advised to contact apple done so explained problem and what I have done to try and rectify problem. Told it is a fault with the phone, they booked me in to exchange for a new one. Less than 1 months warranty left. That’s good service.

    Same here.

The phone was working fine until yesterday. Outgoing calls Failing with error “Call Failed”.

Earlier the phone was not working at all. No Outgoing. People calling me could hear the ring, but the phone at my end was not ringing. I updated the Firmware to 5.1 and I started getting incoming calls and SMS started to work.

I finally restored the phone, yet no luck.

The only thing what I did yesterday was I checked a friend’s New Micro SIM in my phone.

    Any suggestions 🙁 ???

    Thanks

      Try this

General- Date&Time- Set Automatically Turn it OFF

the set the Time Zone to THE PALCE WHERE YOU BOUGHT THE IPHONE After that just change the time to your current time !!

For an example i live in sri lanka but i bought the iphone from singapore so i changed the time zone to singapore and adjusted the time to my local time and IT WORKED 🙂

I tried all the methods and procedures you all have provided but none worked ,
then i set the waiting call button on and it worked .
but am afraid the problem is going to happen again.

Where do you find the call waiting button? Tried everything mention here & it didn’t work.
