Several users have reported that the iPhone 5 camera flash does not work properly; specifically, the flash goes on right before or after the photo is taken, thus flash has no effect on pictures taken and they subsequently come out black or very dark. In other words, the flash is not synchronized with the camera shot.
To resolve this, try following tips. Check after performing each tip if your issue is fixed:
- Disable location services in privacy settings (Settings > Privacy > Location Services)
- Restart your camera app by double clicking the home button, tapping and holding the camera icon and tapping the red minus sign.
- If your iPhone has any case on it, remove it and try again.
- Restart your iPhone by pressing and holding the on/off button then slide the slider.
- Reset your iPhone by pressing and holding on/off button and home button together for about 10 seconds (ignore the slider).
- Do a DFU reset (Using DFU Restore to Solve iPhone Problems).

My flaslight or flash on my 5c stopped working. When I pull up the control center the icon is normal & comes on as normal but the light doesn’t come on & in the camera app it’s on auto & I switched it to off & back to on & then auto & took some pics but no flash! What could be the problem?

My i phone camera flash is not working i change it from another i phone but its seems helpless what can i do? I phone 5
So, none of these “fixes” worked. Now what is the real solution?
Haha good one jonny
Wow Bob, you really are a complete tool. The iPhone 5 has a light sensor that detects the amount of light for the “auto” setting. This sensor can be blocked, or perhaps gets an improper reflection from… You guessed it! A case. Don’t be so quick to show people how stupid you are.
Take the case off! Are you serious? What about if you hold the phone at a 45 degree angle whie doing a hand stand. That might also make it work!
It may sound silly but I had the same problem and although the case had a good opening for flash I took off the case and now get perfect flash photos
I cleaned the littlest window on the back of the phone which is in a case. Now the flash works. I think the accumulated dust stopped the light sensor from working properly.
