Safari 5.0.1: Adds Extensions, Fixes Page Loading Bug and More

By SK 9 comments Last updated March 7, 2016

Apple has released Safari 5.0.1 for Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.x) and Snow Leopard (10.6.x), and Safari 4.1.1 for Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.x).

Safari 5.0.1 adds the ability to use extensions–features created by third-party developers. It also fixes a number of issues, including some we have noted with the 5.0 release. In particular, the update addresses an overaggressive prefetching mechanism that may cause problems with some routers and ISPs, resulting in browser slowness, inability to load pages, and problems with other devices connected to routers.

For a full list of enhancements, visit the Safari 5.0.1 download page.

Safari 4.1.1 offers similar fixes for Tiger users, but does not include the extensions functionality.

Feedback or problems after the update? Let us know.

Try other Browsers until an update. The Problem in Safari Five is not your internet connection but the way how Pre-Caches websites. By that I mean that little lag you get in the beginning & in the end it’s storing info for the next time, but the problem is that it does this everytime even with a website you use frequently. Apple is aware of the problem but since they have their hands busy they forget about all other Platforms they have.

What the hell is the matter with Apple. Since updating to 5.0.1 it’s like being on dial-up again. DON’T UPDATE TO SAFARI 5.0.1. WAIT UNTIL THE SNAIL-BUG IS FIXED…
