Some users have reported that page fail to load in Safari 5.0. In these cases, the progress bar never completes, and Safari indefinitely displays the message “Contacting www.nameofsite.com” in the status bar.
Fix for Safari 5.0 Pages Will Not Load
This problem can be caused by the presence of third-party add-ons that are incompatible with Safari 5.0. One such add-on that has been identified as culpable is CosmoPod, a tool that allows you to download Flash videos and audio content.
To resolve the issue, download the CosmoPod package and launch the installer, then select the “Uninstall” option and follow the steps.
You may also need to uninstall SIMBL by following the same process; download the SIMBL package and run the included uninstaller.

Safari just won’t load on my mac. I don’t have any add-ons. What happens is the webpage will not completely load and when I refresh the page I get a loading symbol, then the process begins again, the only webpages that seem to load are google and netflix.

I don’t have cosmopod on my mac.
My problem is that everytime I try to go on my university’s website, aud.edu, on Safari, there’s a “network error”. I have to use Firefox to get into the website.
My sister can access the website just fine on Safari on her Macbook.
Help?

Uninstalled CosmoPod, now Safari 5 works great! Thank you very much!

Turned out uninstalling SIMBL didn’t work after all. When running Cosmopod the uninstall option is not available! I take that means I don’t have it to begin with. The problem with Safari is still there, please help!

Brilliant solution!

Your “fix” for Safari 5’s “does not load” problem (uninstall Cosmopod) worked perfectly and immediately.
Thank you VERY much.

Didn’t have the CosmoPod to uninstall. SIMBL did uninstall. Seemed to have worked so far. Thank you. This is the first problem I had with a MAC in 2 years since I bought it.
Martin says
Thank you sooo much. This help really worked and now the webpages load correctly 🙂

I don’t add add-ons. And now my Safari 5.0 hangs while building pages, especially ones with more complex visual elements (weather maps, for instance).
Other aspects of Safari 5.0 (like the Reader) are great, but this needs fixing. It happens on maybe 30% of the pages.
Bradley Dichter says
The released a Cosmopod 4.5 from their changelog page but it will surely crash Safari 5.0 while I didn’t have the crash with version 4.4.1
Stan says
I was having this problem on several sites and I have not added ANY ‘add-ons.’
