So, you just bought the latest and greatest iPhone, and now you are looking for the best speaker to go with it. Well, there’s no shortage of smart speakers on the market fighting for your attention. Sonos just released what may be their best argument yet for some of your hard-earned cash, the Sonos Move. Unlike every Sonos speaker before it, this is the first one that can, well, move.
The only problem? It’s a little pricey coming in at $399.
HomePod vs. Sonos Move
You may be thinking Apple’s HomePod is the best option, and for iPhone users, it’s certainly near the top. So the question I want to help answer is whether you should spend the extra money on This Sonos Move rather than the HomePod.
The first thing to get out of the way is voice assistants. The HomePod features Siri, which is capable of playing music and doing some simple, smart home tasks. This Sonos Move wins here with the options of both Alexa and Google Assistant. Also, since Alexa now supports Apple Music, you aren’t going to miss Siri.

#1 Reason to love the Sonos Move? Portability
Right off the bat, the most significant advantage the Sonos Move has over the HomePod is its portability. There’s no doubt the HomePod sounds excellent, but I wish I could take that sound with me everywhere. I sit on my back patio all the time, and the Sonos Move quickly replaced an old Bluetooth speaker I used to use. And the best part is I can continue listening to the music already playing on my Sonos speakers inside. No more fiddling with the old Bluetooth speaker.
Ironically, the option to use Bluetooth on the Sonos Move is perhaps its best feature. I already own several Sonos speakers, and they’re lovely products. But, I only get to enjoy them when I’m home. In the time I’ve spent with the Move, it has also been a perfect companion for the tennis court. And it fits right back into my Sonos system when I get back home.
#2 Awesome Sound Quality
Overall, The HomePod and the Sonos Move are on equal footing when it comes to sound quality. Both have an auto-tuning feature where the speaker uses its microphones to get an idea of the room it’s in and adjust the sound accordingly. The Sonos Move beats the HomePod one area. The Move can get significantly louder. Granted the Move is close to twice the size.
The highs and mids of both speakers are comparable, although for vocals I would give the edge to the HomePod. I expected the Sonos Move to provide a deeper bass than the HomePod, but this wasn’t the case out of the box. Bass on both is similar. But, the Sonos app offers EQ settings where you can tinker with your sound signature.
#3 Know Yourself
Companies tailor products for different consumers, and you need to be realistic with yourself when making buying decisions. In this case, if you have a perfect spot picked out for a new home speaker, and you know you’re never going to move it, buy the HomePod. For everyone else, I think the Sonos Move is worth the extra $100.
The new Sonos Move speaker is making a name for itself with some excellent user reviews.

The versatility makes the Move the best Sonos product yet. The Move is excellent as a stationary home speaker, but you can also move it around the house with ease and take it with you on the go.
