Top Free Mac OS X Games

By SK 3 comments Last updated January 27, 2012

Now that the holidays are rolling around, you may have some extra time off to use your Mac or iOS devices. If so, you may want to try out some new games on your Mac—for free!

In this article we will be highlighting a few of the best free games for your Mac. Keep in mind that this tutorial requires access to the Mac App Store, so your Mac must be running OS X 10.6.6 or higher.

Screen Snake

Screen Snake

Screen Snake is an awesome yet simple game for your Mac. This app allows you to play the classic game Snake over your Mac’s desktop.  This is a very cool effect that many Mac users will enjoy.

The directional keys or the WSAD keys on your keyboard can control screen Snake. This makes the game easy for any gamer to use, no matter what keyboard layout he or she prefers. To me, this is a cool feature that every game should have.

Unfortunately, this game has no online capabilities. I would like the developers to add some sort of online leader boards or Facebook integration so users can compare scores with friends and family.

Overall, this game is a must-have for any Mac user, mainly because of the game’s amazing UI and control flexibility. Download this game from the iTunes App Store.

Rail Maze

Rail Maze

Rail Maze is a very cool puzzle game for Mac OS X. The objective of this game is to rearrange the given train tracks so the train can make it to the finish line without crashing.

Rail Maze is perfect for pre-teen kids as it encourages creative thinking. Older adults may find it simple yet fun, this is because it is a good game for “speed-playing”. “Speed-playing” is when users play a video game as fast as possible.

This game is extremely simple to play. Over time, the levels get progressively harder and require more pieces of train track to be fixed. You can download this free app in the iTunes App Store.

PapiJump Free

PapiJump Free

Papijump has always been one of my favorite iOS games, so when I found out that it was released for Mac OS X, I just had to download it! Papijump for Mac is quite similar to it’s iOS counterpart. The goal of this game is to get “Mr.Papi” (your character) to the top of the never-ending maze.

This game is very easy to control. All you have to do to control Mr.Papi is to use your Mac’s arrow keys to move him left and right. The goal is to continue moving onto the next platform while continuing to move up to the top of the map.

To me, Papijump is a great game for all ages. This is because of the game’s simple controls, graphics and story line. This app can be picked up for free in the iTunes App Store.

So how exactly does a snake consume an animal that is much larger than it is really head?

It’s easy to forget that before the popularity of Xbox, Playstations and other gaming platforms you could actually just play computer games on the computer. Thanks for the reminder

Fun games for free – could there be any better combination? 😉

Actually I am a big puzzle fan, so the rail game looks something that I will pick up.
