It’s been one week since the iPhone 13 was released with iOS 15 in-tow, and it hasn’t been the greatest first week from a software perspective. Apple’s latest mobile operating system has been the subject of quite a bit of frustration for a few different reasons. Thankfully, iOS 15.01 has arrived, and aims to fix many of the problems that were plaguing iPhone 13 users.

iOS 15.01 Includes Bug Fixes and More
One of the biggest bugs with the iPhone 13 release was the inability to use the “Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch” feature. This was introduced during the iOS 14 release cycle in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. When your iPhone is paired to an Apple Watch, you no longer need to rely on Face ID or Touch ID in order to unlock your iPhone quickly. Instead, the devices communicate with each other and the iPhone automatically unlocks for you.
Along with the bug fix for that problem, here are the changes Apple has described as being fixed with iOS 15.01:
- Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch may not work on iPhone 13 models
- Settings app may incorrectly display an alert that storage is full
- Audio meditations could unexpectedly start a workout on Apple Watch for some Fitness+ subscribers
This likely won’t be the last “point” release for iOS 15, as there are other issues that have been wreaking havoc. These include touch screen responsiveness troubles, along with the inability for third-party applications to take advantage of the iPhone 13 Pro’s 120Hz ProMotion display. At the time of this writing, it is unclear whether those other problems are being resolved with the release of iOS 15.01.
How To Install iOS 15.01
Now that the iOS 15.01 update is rolling out to iPhone owners, you’ll definitely want to update as soon as possible to get rid of any potential bugs you have been experiencing. If you haven’t already received the OTA prompt that an update is available, here are the steps you need to download and install iOS 15.01:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Select Software Update.
It may take a moment or two, but you should then see the description for iOS 15.01 appear in the Settings app. Just tap the Download and Install button, and then wait for the installation to be completed. From there, you can double-check to make sure that Unlock With Apple Watch is working properly by following these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Face ID & Passcode.
- Enter your passcode or password used to unlock your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap the toggle next to the name of your Apple Watch under the Unlock With Apple Watch section.
After a few moments, you will either see confirmation that the feature has been enabled, or you could again be greeted with the prompt stating that your Watch and iPhone cannot communicate. If you’ve already installed the iOS 15.01 update, try restarting both your iPhone and Apple Watch before trying again.
