When you buy a new Apple device, you may also get three months of Apple TV for free if the offer is valid at the time of purchase. Unfortunately, you may sometimes have trouble redeeming the offer. Your device may fail to activate the Apple TV trial and prompt you to subscribe to the paid service instead. Let’s see what you can do about this issue.
Why Can’t I Redeem My 3-Month Apple TV Trial?
Double-check to make sure you successfully claimed your free trial of Apple TV. Maybe the offer failed to activate on your account. Try to redeem it again, and check the results.
- First, set up your new Apple product. Turn it on and sign in with your Apple ID.
- Make sure your device is running the latest iOS or macOS version.
- Then, open the Apple TV app. The 3-month offer should quickly show up on the screen.
- Select the Apple TV+ tab, and then tap Enjoy 3 Months Free.
Additionally, make sure the Apple TV free trial is still listed on Apple’s promo page. The offer is available for a limited time only. Or maybe you or someone else accidentally canceled the free trial.
Existing or Previous Subscribers Can’t Redeem the Offer
The 3-month Apple TV trial is not available for existing subscribers. There is only one offer per user or Family, it doesn’t matter how many devices you purchased. If you have had an extended Apple TV free trial before, you’re ineligible for the 3-month free trial.
For example, if you used the 7-day free trial in the past, you can’t redeem the 3-month offer. Unfortunately, your new device may still keep the free trial notification on, inviting you to redeem the offer. As Apple explains:
The 3 months free Apple TV+ offer is not available if you or your Family have previously accepted the Apple TV+ one year free offer.
Additional Conditions to Redeem the 3-Month Apple TV Trial
- Buy your new Apple device directly from Apple or an authorized reseller.
- Activate the trial on your new device, you can’t redeem the offer on a different device.
- You have 3 months to activate the offer after setting up your new device.
- Only the first user of the device can claim the offer.
Log Out of Your Account and Restart Your Device
Log out of your account on all your Apple devices, and then turn them off. Wait for 30 seconds to completely reset your connection to Apple’s servers. Then, log back into your Apple account on the device you want to activate the free trial of Apple TV. Check if you can activate the offer, and then log back into your account on all your devices.
If the issue persists, contact Apple Support and ask the support agents to look into the details of your account and Family Sharing group settings.
Conclusion
To redeem the 3-month Apple TV free trial, you need to activate the offer directly on your new device. If you already redeemed an extended Apple TV free trial, you’re ineligible for the 3-month offer.

I am not able to activate the free 3-month Apple TV+ on my newly purchased (last week) Apple iPad Air ver. 5. I am only being offered a 7-day subscription now.

Did you have an offer card included with the product? I think they provide a card with a code where you can obtain the 3 month deal. At least that’s what I had to do for my trial.

Two plus years ago, I watched a trial on LG TV, however the Apple TV app had issues, so we cancelled after 1-2 weeks of issues with built-in app.
We recently bought a iPad and a couple MBA’s, which all have 3 month promo. If I click on the promo, I can only get Apple One for one month or Apple TV +??!! I love Apple products, but recently their market dept. seems to be plagued with these bait and switches schemes.
On side note, we bought all of the above on Black Friday and on the EDU site they showed multiple banners saying you could get a gift card. Apparently, you cannot get this gift card because it has EDU discount. Or you used your Apple Card which also kills any gift cards. Also, you can only get two gift cards, even though you qualify for all of them.
If you ever want GC’s on Black Friday or Cyber Monday; you are better off buying from some where else. (BestBuy, Target, Walmart). Also, if you have older Apple GC’s, I’d recommend going in-store because phone support gave me all kinds of contradicting support on my large purchase. If not for our love of the product, I would’ve returned it all.

No I cannot get my free 3 month trial on my new TV. I accept the 3 months and then it tells me I need to add a payment option. When I go to iTunes I get an offer for the music not the TV free trial. Why can’t these offers be made easier to access. Wld appreciate some help. I logged in on my Apple tv box when I set it up.

I reported this to the BBB. They said they’ve had a number of complaints from Verizon customers not being able to use their do-called “free” subscription.
