Many users have reported a problem with Safari this morning. Once you open Safari, if you try to type in the search address bar, Safari crashes. Clearing the history, website data and cache is not having any effect on this issue.
Reported issues include:
“When I open safari from my app on iPad and iPhone all seems normal. As soon as I touch search bar to type then safari drops out.”
“Since this morning, every time I go to type something into the safari web bar, it shuts down safari straight away. Phone has been working perfectly and upgraded to the latest iOS version last week and phone was still working perfectly. But as of this morning, the above problem keeps occurring. I have shut the phone down and restarted it and also done a master reset but issue still there. Any ideas on how to fix it?”
The problem is happening on both iphones and ipads.
Since this is a new issue, we have not explored any potential solutions. We have however checked a workaround that will be helpful for this problem with the hope that Apple is aware of this problem and is attempting to resolve the issue
Please Turn off your Safari Suggestions in the Settings.

We will be keeping a close eye on this issue as we move through the week and will keep you posted. It appears to be a problem on the server side on Apple and most often than not problems such as these are usually fixed over night.

I have found a great solution. I switched to Chrome on all of my MACs. Works like a charm. I’m disgusted by this problem.
Hi
Similar problem on IPad 2. Can’t load the Safari page manually or verbally. Turned Safari Suggestions off as per suggestions above and restarted the Ipad but still cannot bring up the Safari screen, it’s just a blank. Has happened several times of late but this is the longest outage.
Advice please.
Hi, Apart from the suggestion in the article to turn off auto suggestions, you can also try to use safari in private browsing mode.

My bookmarks have dispeared, when I press the bookmarks toggle all I get is ….

And how can I recover them??

I tried the workaround, it worked for a while but not any longer.
