Stop Siri From Announcing Calls and Reading Messages

By Madalina Dinita 1 comment Last updated March 16, 2021

Siri is a very powerful personal assistant that can significantly boost your productivity. You can have Siri do a lot of things for you, so that you can take care of other tasks. But sometimes, Apple’s assistant can be a pain in the neck. You don’t want Siri to joyfully announce calls and read your message when you’re in the middle of an important meeting. So, let’s explore how you can avoid awkward events and better control Siri.

How Do I Turn off Siri Announcing Calls?

Follow the steps below to prevent Siri from speaking out the caller’s name.

  1. Tap your iPhone Settings and select Phone.
  2. Then select Calls.
  3. Change Announce Calls to Never.

Alternatively, you can set Siri to announce calls only when your headphones are connected to your phone. That’s a very handy feature to use, especially if you don’t want other people to hear who’s calling you.

How Do I Stop Siri From Reading My Messages?

If you don’t want Siri to read your messages out loud, you can disable this feature.

  1. Navigate to your iPhone’s Settings.
  2. Select Notifications and then tap Announce Messages with Siri.Announce Messages with Siri iphone
  3. Switch off this option to prevent Siri from reading your text messages.

Turn off Siri Repeating My Text

If you’d like to keep this feature but prevent Siri from reading your messages back to you, follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to Settings, select Notifications, and then Announce messages with Siri.
  2. Switch off Reply without Confirmation. In this manner, Siri will send your replies as soon as you finished speaking.

Conclusion

Many iPhone users prefer to turn off Siri completely because they’re not happy with its performance. The assistant doesn’t always use emphasis and pauses correctly, which may sometimes change the meaning of the text messages you receive.

I do not want Siri to announce and read my messages. I have an iPhone 13 Pro. There is no option to turn this off.

“Announce messages with Siri” isn’t there, period.
