Many iPad Pro users complained their devices sometimes crash and shut down when charged at 100 percent. This problem usually occurs after the device has been on charge overnight. The bad news is that relatively new devices are also affected by this issue. Let’s explore what you can do to fix your iPad.

Why Does My iPad Keep Shutting Down When Fully Charged?
Never Let Your iPad Fully Charge
The most obvious solution is to never let your iPad charge to 100 percent. Run an experiment, charge your iPad to 99% or less, and check if the issue persists. Of course, this also means not letting your device charge overnight.
Your iPad is equipped with an internal rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery. There’s a reason why you should not fully charge Li-ion batteries. Battery manufacturers confirmed that regularly charging your device to 100 percent actually stresses the battery and may potentially reduce its lifespan.
Surprisingly, some users suggested that letting the battery drain completely, and then charging it to 100 percent may fix the issue. Give this workaround a try and check if it works for you as well.
Other users suggested leaving the screen on while charging. For instance, you can launch a video streaming app and wait until your battery reaches 100 percent. It seems you only need to do this once to fix the problem.
Check Your Battery
Install the Battery Life app from the Store and check if your battery is going out. Depending on the results of the scan, you may also want to take your iPad to an authorized repair shop. The best solution is to schedule an appointment at the nearest Apple Store.
If the battery health scan shows that your battery is running at 80 percent of its capacity, that’s pretty much the cutoff point between a normal battery and a faulty one. If the battery capacity is below 80%, your device might start crashing and shutting down on full charge.
Additionally, navigate to Settings, select Battery, and check what apps are eating up your battery. Disable or uninstall them and check if you notice any improvements.
Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
When you power on your device, put it in Airplane Mode as soon as possible. Then, disable your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections and use your device for five minutes. It doesn’t matter what you do, you can open random apps or play your favorite offline games. Then enable only Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cellular data. Check if the device is still crashing.
Restore Your iPad to Factory Settings
Before you do anything, make sure your iPad is running the latest iOS or iPadOS version and backup your data.
If you’re running the latest macOS version, launch Finder. If you’re running an older version or you’re on Windows 10, launch iTunes. Then connect your iPad to your computer and click the Restore iPad button. Confirm your choice and launch the process.
Conclusion
If your iPad randomly shuts down when fully charged, disable Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and cellular data. Additionally, check your battery health to see if you need to replace the battery. If you’re looking for a quick workaround, simply avoid charging your battery to 100 percent. If you found other ways to troubleshoot this problem, share your ideas in the comments below.

Brought mine in, they say they are aware of the iOS problem and reset it. It lasted a week and now does the same thing again. This is my 4th iPad and it ‘s just a few days over a year old. So disappointed esp cus I’m a big Apple fan having 7 PowerBooks and multiple towers and Apple everything since the beginning in the 80s. I’d hate to believe it’s Apple trying to sell me a new product.
Does the same thing. I brought it in just over warranty, they reset it, they know this is happening. Still messed up. WTF?
I have an Ipad Pro and I have the same problem, every time I charge my Ipad over night, then the morning i see my Ipad shut down, I have to force it on but it continue showing 1% then shut down again. I must plug the charging cable in then force it on again. I try many treats by turn off the Wifi and Bluetooth , try to reset it, update or restore it etc …. everything still scrash again when fully charged . The only solution is never do fully 100% or never put it on over night charged, try to use off your battery to 0% then charge it again will work for a while 1-2 weeks then happen again … There is a Rumor that Apple don’t want to fix it, so Ipad User need to buy new Ipad every 3-4 years because they can program O.S software to stop charging the Ipad when it reach 99%, but they don’t want to do that? Thats how they can make more money from customers …?
I had two of these refurbished iPad with same issue.
Here is what I did to fix & also avoid it from happening again.
———-
This is how i fixed my ‘existing, problem:
– Put off Bluetooth from ‘Settings’ ONLY and not from the quick menu.
Go to settings—->Bluetooth —> off. Repeat this process twice. ON/OFF, ON/OFF. Do this process super ‘promptly’ as soon as the ipad turns on.
IF THE IPAD SHUTS DOWN BEFORE PERFORMING ABOVE MENTIONED ACTION. ? Then, Connect the iPad to charging and then turn iPad on. Then perform the settings->BLUETOOTH action. It won’t turn off when plugged in.
This is what I did to “avoid” it from happening again:
-Best & Permanent solution for me was — before plugging iPad into charging, ALWAYS turn the Bluetooth OFF.
-Not to put iPad into charging with ipad off. iPad should be ON while it is charging.
This is the only thing that worked for me.
Hope this might work. Worth a shot.
Thanks.
Why does Apples instructions to ‘fix’ the IPAD7 from crashing when 100% charged rest on the consumer?
Why doesn’t Apple fix the issue or recall the phone?
I’ve tried by disconnecting Bluetooth and Wifi but the problem is not fixed.
In that case it’s not possible to reduce to charge under 100% because the ipad keeps to shut down continuosly!
Fortunately I have tried by attaching a USB-C to USB drive (with related app). In that case the ipad doesn’t switch off when not connected to the charger and I can wait that the energy charge goes under 100%, when I can disconnect the USB drive.
Not simple but the only way to go out from this fault!
It was a real surprise to see my Ipad turning off when fully charged! Is this the powerful Apple software and reliability? I imaged that the problem was due to software and not by hardware, as my IPad has only four years of life.
The solution not to charge at 100% is sincerely weird. I have tested that when turning off Bluetooth the problemi seems avoided.
I image the future with a lot of electric cars blocked from these type of faults!
Good luck!
Mine needed rebooting a few times before it stayed on after a 100% charge and showed the plug it in graphic when I tried to turn it on. But when it stayed on the battery was fine for a few days so clearly not a battery issue. The fix is book an appointment with an Apple genius at an Apple store and say the recent update has screwed the battery firmware calibration. The appointment arrives by email suggesting back it up and make sure it’s up to date (but auto updates was on). So plugged it in for a really long update installation (so long I had to cancel my appointment) but surprise surprise problem fixed!!
Apple trying to sell more iPads again!
My iPad will only work when the charger is plugged in even when fully charged
If take charger out and put iPad on it will turn itself off until charger put in then have to wait for apple sign to restart it up.Do I need a knew battery or a new iPad
You need a new tablet, one that doesn’t have the apple branding. Samsung are pretty good and their tablets aren’t designed to fleece their customers.
What did you find out? Mine works if it on the charger or battery 83% or higher. I have reset my iPad twice.
