Instagram might be a social media app, but not every person is the same sort of “social.” The service now has an Activity Status feature, which shows your contacts when the last time you used the app was and how long you used it for. It also shows whether you’re online or not at any given time.
If you prefer to keep things more private, even when you’re browsing Instagram, don’t worry. While the new Activity Status is enabled by default, you can turn it off, and it’s an easy process.

Who Can See Your Activity Status
It’s understandable to be concerned about your privacy, especially with popular apps like Instagram. The good news is that not everyone can see your activity on the app, even with the new Activity Status feature.
By default, Instagram only shows your activity to friends and people you’ve exchanged private messages with on the service. If you’re okay with these people seeing your activity, you don’t need to do anything. On the other hand, if you want to make sure nobody can see that you’re online, read on.
How to Turn Off Instagram Activity Status on Your iPhone
Open the Instagram app and tap your user icon (either a photo of your choice or a stick figure) in the bottom-right of the app.
Now tap the three-line icon in the upper right (also known as a hamburger menu), then select Settings at the bottom of the screen.
Here, select the Privacy menu, then scroll down and tap Activity Status. There are two checkboxes here, both enabled by default: “Show Activity Status” and “Show when you’re active together.”
Disabling “Show Activity Status” will disable both options. Once you’ve disabled this, you’re finished. Now you can browse all you want, with no worries about anyone seeing that you’re online.
Other Instagram Trouble?
Instagram’s Activity Status may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but at least it doesn’t stop you from using the app. It’s also relatively easy to turn this feature off, as demonstrated above. That isn’t the case for every issue with Instagram, though.
