Apple has been in a lot of hot water over the last few months, following concerns that AirTags have been found to be used in nefarious ways. There have been plenty of reports and even evidence on the likes of TikTok where AirTags were being used to track people unknowingly. This has left Apple with some tough decisions, and there have even been a few public calls for Apple to stop selling AirTags altogether.

How To Change AirTag Notifications
The truth is that for those unaffected AirTag users, these have become extremely invaluable as they provide a way to find things like your keys, wallets, and can be attached to your luggage while traveling. By doing so, you’ll be able to know if you left your bag behind or if your keys are wedged in the couch. But because of the ongoing concerns, Apple has implemented a few changes to the way that AirTag notifications work from within the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad.
Apple’s Find My app is an extremely convenient solution for locating any of your various Apple devices, including things like AirTags, AirPods, your iPhone, or anything else. It’s turned into a super-charged version of Tile, and has become quite a hit for those living in the Apple ecosystem. It also helps that Apple has competitively priced the AirTag, while also selling a three-pack so you can have some spares in case you want to put the AirTag in different places.
But if you want to know how to change AirTag notifications that come through your iPhone or iPad, here’s how you can do so:
- Open the Find My app on your iPhone.
- Tap either the Devices or Items tab in the bottom toolbar.
- Locate and select the name of your AirTag from the list of connected devices.
- Swipe up to reveal the entire Settings panel for your AirTag.
- Under Notifications, tap Notify When Left Behind.
- Tap the toggle to the On or Off position.
- In the top right corner, tap the Done button.
- If prompted, tap the Continue button.
- Tap the Done button in the top right corner again.
- Exit the Find My app.
There’s also an option called “Notify Me, Except At” that allows you to determine whether notifications will appear if you have left the confines of your home, or other trusted locations. This is great for those who don’t always carry their MacBooks or iPads with them, so you won’t get a notification if you leave the house without those items. But since it’s based on a specific location as opposed to just the limits of the H1 chip and Bluetooth, it’s a bit more precise and helpful.
