What Happens When You Shut Down iPhone From Settings

By Mehvish 0 comments Last updated May 23, 2024

Shutting down iPhone from settings is the same as turning it off from the Power button. Here’s everything that happens when you shut down your iPhone:

  • The iPhone turns off completely, and you will see a black screen.
  • You can’t use the phone for anything. That is, you cannot make or receive calls, send messages, or use any other app until you turn on the phone again.
  • You will not receive any new notifications when the phone is shut down.
  • Alarms and timers will not go off.
  • No personal data or app is deleted from your phone.
  • Shutting down the phone clears the cache and refreshes RAM.
  • The recently opened apps will be accessible from the Recent apps section after turning on the phone, but they will restart if you open them.
  • Your iPhone’s location isn’t tracked while it’s shut down. If you lose your iPhone, the last used location available before the iPhone is shut down will be shown in the Find My app.
  • Your iPhone will not power on automatically. You need to long-press the Power button to turn on your iPhone.

When to Shut Down Your iPhone

You can shut down your iPhone in the following situations:

  • Troubleshoot an issue: Many times, we are told to restart our iPhone to fix issues like the internet not working, no sound issues, etc., and it helps. But to restart the iPhone, you need to shut it down.
  • Save Battery: If you are planning on not using the iPhone for a long time, you should turn it off as it helps save the battery since no app or process is being used.

FAQs

1. What’s the Difference Between Factory Reset and Shutdown on iPhone?

Factory reset (or erase all content) on the iPhone will delete your data and all the installed apps from the phone. The phone will be restored to its original state, like a brand-new device with none of your customizations. On the other hand, shutdown merely restarts the iPhone.

2. Is There Any Alternate Way to Shut Down an iPhone Without Going to Settings?

Yes, long-press the Power button and slide right on the Power off slider.
