How to Turn off iPhone 15

By Andrew Myrick 0 comments Last updated September 19, 2023

Before the advent of the iPhone X, turning off your iPhone was a simpler process without the need to navigate multiple buttons. However, for those wishing to switch off the iPhone 15, those simpler days are over. The entire iPhone 15 series follows the trend of iPhones without a home button, leaving users with four separate buttons to manage instead.

How to Turn off iPhone 15

The first method for those who want to know how to turn off iPhone 15, is the “normal” way to turn off any iPhone that does not include a built-in Home Button. Here’s how to do so:

  1. Press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
  2. Continue holding until the Power Off slider appears at the top.
  3. Release the buttons.
  4. Drag the slider from left to right.

At some point over the past couple of years, Apple finally added the ability to turn off iPhone from the Settings app. It was a rather surprising addition, and it made us wonder why this wasn’t possible before. Nevertheless, here’s how you can turn off iPhone 15 from the Settings app:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone 15.
  2. Scroll down and tap General.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Shut Down.
  4. Drag the slider from left to right.

After you drag the slider, your iPhone might take a moment or two before it is actually, completely, turned off. From there, you can go ahead and press the Side button when you’re ready to turn the iPhone back on.

The last method can come in handy for those who want to turn off iPhone 15 in the event that you can’t interact with the Power Off slider. This usually occurs if something is causing your iPhone to freeze up, whether it’s an app or something else, and you just need to turn it off entirely to get things working again.

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button until the screen turns off completely.

If your iPhone is still functioning properly, you might see the Power Off slider appear at the top of the screen. Simply continue holding down the Side button until the iPhone’s screen goes black, as it will be turned off completely.

Conclusion

The process to turn off the iPhone 15 might seem a bit more complex compared to older models due to the absence of a home button. However, once you familiarize yourself with the new button combinations, it becomes straightforward and easy to manage. Remember, the key is to simultaneously press the specific buttons as described. With this guide, you should now be able to confidently power off your iPhone 15 whenever necessary.
