What’s New About iPhone 14 Pro Max’s Display?
Funnily enough, the new iPhone 14 Pro Max beat out Apple’s own record with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The previous model had 12 display-related awards, whereas this version has 15. DisplayMate, a reputable source on OLED technology, stated that Apple has put significant focus into raising the standards of the screen’s Absolute Picture Quality and Absolute Color Accuracy. This means that we get more vivid colors, better resolution, and overall better quality. In 7 categories of DisplayMate’s awards, the iPhone 14 Pro Max achieved an almost perfect score:
- Highest Color Accuracy of White
- Highest Absolute Color Accuracy
- Smallest Shift in Color Accuracy With APL
- Smallest Maximum Color Shift With APL
- Highest Image Contrast Accuracy and Intensity Scale Accuracy
- Smallest Shift in Image Contrast and Intensity Scale With APL
- Smallest Change in Peak Luminance With APL
Other noticeable awards include:
- Highest Full Screen Brightness for OLED Smartphones
- Highest Peak Display Brightness
- Highest Contrast Ratio
- Lowest Screen Reflectance
- Highest Contrast Rating in Ambient Light
- Smallest Brightness Variation With Viewing Angle
- Smallest Color Variation With Viewing Angle
All this is to say that no matter where you are or your surrounding light, you can expect a high-quality picture on your iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Should I Buy an iPhone 14 Pro Max?
So we’ve established that the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s display is the best in the world, but does that warrant you purchasing it? Here are some factors to consider:
Price
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is definitely a heavy investment to make. Its launch price was $1,099, which was the same as the iPhone 13 Pro Max on release. Some may argue that the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s features don’t justify the price, but that might depend on what you use your smartphone for. Also, if you have an older model phone, like the XR or below, you may actually want to look for an upgrade. Of course, the iPhone 14 has various models available at different price points, so you’re not limited to the 14 Pro Max. But if you enjoy top-end products with the best features, then you might want to make the investment. For sure, though, if you purchase this Pro Max, you probably won’t be buying a new iPhone for quite a while.
Features
At a glance, we can see that the iPhone 14 Pro Max has maxed-out specs. It has an A16 bionic chip processor, 6.7 inch Super Retina XDR display (which we’ve discussed in-depth above), 48 megapixel HDR camera capable of 4K, and all the other interesting features people are fawning over, such as Dynamic Island and Emergency SOS, etc. So while the price of the product is expensive, it does have quite a few features packed into it.
Value
The iPhone 14 Pro Max display is certainly great and provides users with excellent picture quality. This is great if you like streaming shows and movies, require precise colors and brightness for photos, or if you like to play games. But what if you use your smartphone for more casual or business purposes? If you use your phone more for texting, social media, or phone calls, do you really need these features at such a price? One would argue no. So again, it really depends on what model you currently have. If you have an iPhone 11, 12, or 13, we don’t recommend upgrading just yet. You could probably wait a little for the inevitable price drop. If you have an older model, many new iOS 16 features won’t work, or your device may start slowing down a little bit. At that point, you can make a judgment call as to whether you can shell out $1,099 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
