When using your Powerbeats Pro, the left earpiece may shut down unexpectedly despite being charged. It usually gets to 55-57 percent and then dies. If you put it back into the case and then back in your ear, it will reconnect with around 50 percent battery left. But after a few minutes, it suddenly dies with zero percent battery. Shortly after, the other earpiece turns off as well.
Interestingly enough, all the users who have experienced this problem reported the same behavior or shutdown pattern. First, the left earpiece dies, followed by the right one a few minutes later. Let’s see what you can do to solve this problem.

What to Do if Your Powerbeats Pro Keep Turning Off
Reset Your Earbuds
- Place your earbuds into the case.
- Don’t close the lid, leave the case open.
- Then, press and hold the status button until the LED starts flashing.
- Release the button and pair your earbuds with your device.
Unpair Your Earbuds
- Disconnect your earbuds.
- Navigate to iPhone Settings.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Then, tap the Info button next to your Powerbeats Pro.
- Select Forget This Device.
- Put your earbuds into the case and restart your iPhone.
- Pair your earbuds with your device and check if they still shut down unexpectedly.
Get the Latest iOS Updates
Be sure to update your iPhone to the latest version. Go to Settings, select General, and tap Software Update. If your iOS device is up to date, then you will also have the latest firmware for your Powerbeats Pro earbuds. Check if you notice any improvements after updating your iPhone.
Clean Your Earbuds and Case
Take a cotton swab and clean your earbuds and case. Make sure nothing’s interfering with your earbuds while charging. Clean the metal charging pins of the case. Additionally, ensure your earbuds are sitting properly in the charging case. Sometimes, a buildup of earwax, dust, or dirt can make it so your earbuds don’t sit right.
Could This Be a Manufacturing Defect?
Powerbeats Pro users have been complaining about this problem for more than a year now. This is a widely reported issue. Many users are convinced this problem is caused by a manufacturing defect. As a matter of fact, some users already sued Apple over Powerbeats Pro’s presumably faulty batteries and charging system.
Allegedly, the earbuds fail to charge properly due to a badly-designed charging case. The earpieces may sometimes get dislodged from their seating. As a result, the case fails to charge them properly.
If you suspect the issue you’re experiencing is due to unexpected charging issues, leave the case open while charging your Powerbeats Pro. Check if you notice any improvements.
Conclusion
To fix the issue where your Powerbeats Pro shut down unexpectedly, reset your earbuds. On your iPhone, go to Bluetooth Settings, and select Forget this device. Additionally, update your iPhone to the latest iOS version. If the issue persists, clean the metal charging parts to ensure nothing’s interfering with your earbuds while charging. Leave the case open while charging your earbuds.

I have tried all the above suggestions more than once and my right ear bud still shuts off with over 80% battery left. So annoying for paying for higher quality! Are they working on fixing this in the future?
BADY says
Same issue here, left earbud keeps shutting down after 30-45 mins with +50% battery left … and none of the suggested actions solved the issue. Not sure why Apple is not taking this seriously and provide a solution
Berhan says
I tried all the options but the issue still persists. The charge percentage shows 100% and the left earbud stops after 5 to 10 Minutes
Wes says
Nothing ever fixed mine. I called they told me I’d have to pay $100 to get a new earbud and this is one I already got replaced. So basically I’m just gonna have to get new headphones. Beats customer service honestly sucks.
Nathan Schleper says
Have to leave case open for them to charge. Constantly not charged. Just started within last month of owning them.
John Bailey says
My 1st pair lasted 2 years b4 the right ear wouldn’t charge so I purchased a 2nd pair.
Again the right ear is failing and have only owned for 4 months.
If asked me a year ago I would have said 5 star however it appears there is a problem and I’m forced to drop my review to a 2.5 star because doesn’t matter how amazing the sound is if I can’t hear it!!
Michael Johnson says
I paid too much for these beats for them to be acting like they’re acting you can charge them they’ll be 100% and then all of a sudden 20 minutes later they cut off is really agitating what can I do to fix the problem I paid too much for them I only had them a year and they’re messing up already I will not buy no more thank you

That’s my experience too. I have tried all the suggested fixes. Guess it’s off to apple support then 🙁

My Beats pro 1 also stop playing anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes and when they do the battery still shows 50% or more charge left! Tried rebooting, pairing again and again and cleaning connections. Still have the same problem.
Patrick Sole says
Mine is doing everything that was mentioned above and still isn’t fixed, despite doing what was mentioned above…..
Swammie Nathan says
I have done everything suggested and still each of the each of the Powerbeats shutdown unexpectedly and when placed in case are 80% charged. This is annoying. Tempted to purchase new pair but at the cost point can’t justify with no guarantee news one will perform the same after a period of time. With so many people complaining sad Apple has not addressed. Losing confidence in Apple and their products. Any information on how I can join the lawsuit is this issue is welcomed. Thanks

also found despite saying 100% charge, one earpiece drains in less than 5 minutes. Have reset, updated and cleaned the product.

If your power Beats Pro go dead in the case after using them for a short time, it is because the blue tooth thinks it is still connected. You can either disconnect them in settings after use or make a small faraday cage out of aluminum or a metal box. I place them n the bad I have after use and they have been holding a charge when not used.
I will guarantee it works. I will send a picture if you message me

anyone replaced the battery because of PowerBeats Pro’s earbuds shutdown issue? Does it work?

Has anyone replaced the battery due to a Power Beats Pro Earbuds Dying issue? Did it work?
TJ Spangler says
My Right earbud dies first, but the left seems to work normally. The right one dies at around 60% and I’ve tried this process dozens of times to no avail and can’t find an answer. Any help?
Robin says
I have the same problem. It says both headphones are at 100% when I take them out of the case, but they dont last more than 20mins. Right one goes out first. When I put them back in the case, it says the battery is 50%+ which makes no sense to me at all.
Leatha Smith says
This is the second set of Power Beats Pro earbuds I have owned. With both sets the left earbud stops working at about 55-57 %. I have made sure that both earbuds are fully charged before using so it’s not a charging issue. I have tried EVERYTHING listed above to try and fix the problem with no luck. Very frustrating since I love these earbuds otherwise.

I am facing the same issue its after the New Update of frimware apple auto upates it and make us to purchase a new one of their prouct its same like apple once slowing down the iphones back in years to force users to purcharge their latest ones. pretty fucked up apple. my left one dies at 53-55% battery after i make sure it charged to 100%

pray for a miracle as that is about the only thing that can help once you experience 55% shutdown.

Step one, do not purchase powerbeats pro
If you value your sanity and if you own one, pick it up and throw it in the garbage, or keep it and join the lawsuit (if its still possible).
You’ll loose years off your lifetime trying to fix a broken product by getting frustrated at ‘genius’ advice and trying all kinds of (ridiculous) things.
Above pattern is well established and reproduces all the time, once you experience ~55% shutdown, you never *EVER* go back to usual 100 -> 0% gradual discharge. Not dmn once…
Update IOS, what a dmb advice, article exists as pr damage control… what is next, buy a MAC, make sure you own the latest Iphone ?!
Best you can do is light a candle to S.J. and pray. Only a miracle will work and I am not big on miracles.

My right side plays about 5 to 8 minutes and then dies like it don’t have any power but it shows charged or at least 80% and different amounts depending on how long I leave it out but always dies within 5 to 8 minutes and then have to put them back in the box and it works again just like it did to start with five minutes and that is it same thing over and over again Does anybody have an answer for this I have tried taking it off and re-booting it from my phone I have clean the pins got the latest update it always stays on I do have a iPhone 7 I don’t know if that makes a difference and it worked fine when I first got them though if you have any suggestions please help!!!

Same here, left eatbud dies after 30min. After just 1 minute back in the case, it reconnects with over 90% of charge. I loved these buds, but now no more. Fixes don’t work, bummer!
Columbus says
None of these fixes work. My right Bud dies while I am on a phone call with at least 50% charge remaining. When I take it out of my ear and put it in the case for 1 minute, it reconnects just fine and shows plenty of charge remaining. Without a doubt, it is a manufacturing or software error. Apple quoted me a crazy price for out of warranty service. The problem is that these are the only wireless headphones which will stay in my ear! I’ve spent a fortune on non-hook earphones which sound great but fall out repeatedly.
I’d buy another pair but only after being assured that this issue has been fixed.
JR Franklin says
My left pod wasn’t fully charging and then I had a shut down. Cleaned the ear and the connection still resolve, blue disconnected. Changed the charging cable it’s working now and fully chart both ears.
Sandy says
I’ve tried all of these and I am still having the same issue with them ☹️. Not sure what to do with them now? It’s been a good 3yrs
Mike says
This is absolutely correct. None of those troubleshooting techniques work. I’ll charge my ear buds over night, and the battery life for both ear buds and the case is at 100 percent. The left ear bud dies within exactly 20 minutes of me putting them on, and the right ear bud dies probably within 1 to 2 hours which is extremely frustrating seeing that I paid 250 plus dollars for them when they came out. I’ve tried everything to troubleshoot nothing works. Is there a way we can get a replacement or do we just have to take the loss and buy new ones? I really liked these headphones but I wouldn’t dare buy another beats product if the same issues persists.

Is it too late to join the lawsuit?
I bought “new” Powerbeats Pro at Best Buy. When they were paired to my iPhone, it indicated that the only year limited warranty would expire in 10.5 months. I called Apple and they changed the expiration date to a year from the purchase date. Nevertheless, I returned the headphones and got a refund. I contacted a national distributor on eBay and asked for confirmation that the warranty had not been activated. I was told that it had not been activated. I purchased “new” headphones from this seller. This time, my phone indicated that the warranty had expired! I contacted Apple, provided my proof of purchase and they adjusted the expiration date to one year from the purchase date. In both cases, Apple did not seem surprised about the warranty issues.
I think the earphones can automatically pair when someone walks buy with an iPhone, thereby activating the warranty. I consider this to be a manufacturing defect. Since it happened to me twice, I wonder how many people purchased devices with a warranty that had already been activated or expired.
Aisa says
I have this issue. Its always the left earbud, It will last for an hour tops and then it cuts off without warning and just the right ear bud will play. I asked apple to fix and the charge is approx $300 cad, and they wont guarantee that it would be fixed. I will join the lawsuit.
Ales says
My experience is absolutely the same as described in the article. Resetting and unpairing didn’t help, warranty period has just left. I’m afraid that service won’t come up with any solution, which is a pity – the sound is still great… I expected longer lifetime…
Mrod says
Just started happening to me…now have to take it to Apple which will most likely charge me for whatever is wrong or tell me I need a new pair. None of the above works and is the same thing Apple tells you to do. Mine say they are at 100% , one dies 15 min later and the next one shortly after. Really bad for a pair of 200 dollar headphones
Bobby bih says
None of this works but I’m glad they’re getting sued over it.
