How to Turn Off AirPods Pro 2 Charging Case Sounds

By Andrew Myrick 1 comment Last updated September 30, 2022

With the AirPods Pro 2, Apple kind of surprised everyone as the company opted to keep the same design as its predecessor. Previous rumors and leaks suggested that Apple was going to remove the iconic stem from the AirPods Pro 2, as much of the competition is already doing so.

However, while the AirPods Pro 2 only received some very minor design changes, the including charging case is a bit of a different story. Looking at the charging case from the original AirPods Pro and the new AirPods Pro 2 at a glance, you might get a bit confused at first. But when you start to actually look around the sides and edges of the AirPods Pro 2’s charging case, the differences quickly become apparent.

How to Turn off AirPods Pro 2 Charging Case Sounds

One of the common complaints about the previous AirPods Pro charging case is that you only had the LED indicator on the front to notify you when the case was actually charging. This isn’t exactly the most conducive or reliable option, as you might not be able to actually see the indicator. To help combat this, Apple has implemented a new speaker on the bottom of the AirPods Pro 2 charging case, which will play a chime. This sound will play whenever you place the charging case on a wireless charger, or if you physically connect a Lightning cable to juice up your AirPods Pro 2.

Unfortunately, not everyone is a fan of this, as you might not want to hear an audible chime whenever charging your AirPods Pro 2. Thankfully, Apple has made it easy to turn off AirPods Pro 2 charging case sounds, and here’s how you can do so:

  1. Make sure your AirPods Pro 2 are connected to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Tap the name of your AirPods Pro 2 at the top of the page.
  4. Scroll down until you see Enable Charging Case Sounds.
  5. Tap the toggle to the Off position.
  6. Exit the Settings app.

Moving forward, the only immediate indication that you will have to know that your AirPods Pro 2 are charging is the status LED indicator that appears beneath the lip of the case lid. The LED colors are the same as other AirPods models, with either a red or amber color appearing when you are charging, a blinking white color appearing when you are in pairing mode, and a green color appearing when the case is charged.

In the event that you try to follow the steps above only to find that the Enable Charging Case Sounds toggle is greyed out, the fix is simple. Just unplug the Lightning cable or remove the charging case from its wireless charger. Follow the steps above again, and you should then be able to toggle the sounds on or off.
