How To Watch Baseball on Apple TV

By Justin Meredith 0 comments Last updated September 13, 2022

We’re in the midst of baseball season, which means baseball fans are looking for the most convenient way to catch every game. Well, fortunately for Apple users, catching these games is easier than ever. That’s because you can now watch baseball on Apple TV.

Apple TV is Apple’s streaming subscription service, comparable to Netflix or HBO Max. And starting with the 2022 season of baseball, you can watch all MLB games on Apple TV.

In this post, we’re going to quickly look at how to do this as well as cover points such as why Apple is streaming games and what you need to watch them.

Why is baseball on Apple TV?

First, let’s talk about why baseball is on Apple TV in the first place. The MLB actually has an official statement on this, which you can read here.

For those that don’t feel like going through that article, here are the key reasons this partnership has unfolded:

  • The MLB is looking for a way to keep bringing games to audiences. It’s no secret that the number of cord-cutters and cord-nevers is growing. Most people are not interested in paying for a cable subscription, which means that most people don’t have access to watch baseball in the first place.
  • The MLB wants to reach the largest number of viewers possible. And with Apple being synonymous with smartphones as well as the largest of the tech companies making mobile devices, it only makes sense for Apple to be the platform that hosts baseball nights.
  • The MLB wanted to bring baseball to fans for free. Lastly, the MLB saw this as an opportunity to bring baseball to fans for free. That’s right – you don’t need an Apple+ subscription to watch baseball. Just download the Apple TV app and you can start watching baseball right away. That’s all it takes.

These factors all make a lot of sense when you think about it, especially the move to streaming. After all, how many of us reading this article pay for a cable bundle that includes baseball? Statistically speaking, not most of us.

Do you need an Apple TV to watch baseball?

One of the best parts about watching baseball on Apple TV is that you don’t need an Apple TV to watch it. You don’t even need a subscription. All you need is the Apple TV app, which is available on most smartphones and even most devices.

Whatever tablet, smartphone, smart TV, or gaming console you have at your disposal, you should be able to find the Apple TV app on its app store. This makes it incredibly convenient (and affordable!) to watch baseball wherever you are.

That’s another feature of this partnership that’s so great: You can now watch baseball wherever you are, so if you’re trying to squeeze in home runs at work or going out to dinner, you can still keep up with tonight’s game.

How to watch baseball on Apple TV

Now that you have an idea of why baseball on Apple TV is a big deal, let’s get into how to watch it. This is pretty simple, so just scroll to your method of choosing and get watching!

Using the Apple TV app

The first way to watch baseball on Apple TV is through the Apple TV app. This app comes built-in on the Apple TV device and can easily be downloaded on most consoles, smartphones, and other smart devices.

Once you’ve got it downloaded, open it up and you should see baseball streaming at the top of the screen. If you don’t see it, try searching for it in the search bar.

You don’t need a subscription to watch baseball in the Apple TV app, so you can find it and start watching right away! Just make sure tonight is actually baseball night, otherwise you aren’t going to find anything!

Using the MLB.TV app

Another way to watch baseball on Apple TV is through the MLB.TV app. This method is done with an Apple TV device rather than the Apple TV app. To watch it in this app, find the app on your Apple TV and download it.

Once you have the app, open it and locate the currently streaming game. You should be able to find it easily, as the MLB.TV app makes it simple to find currently streaming games.

Once you’ve found the game you want to watch, just select the Apple TV+ Game option. This will redirect you to the Apple TV app, where you can start watching the game on Apple TV.

Using your web browser

Lastly, you can watch baseball games on the Apple TV website. This is great for when you don’t have a device with the Apple TV app, like a Windows computer or Android tablet.

In these instances, just visit this link, log in with your Apple account or create one, then locate and start watching tonight’s game. And that’s it!

This is a really simple way to watch the game, though be aware that you might not get the same level of video performance as you will with a smart device. This is especially true if you’re using data to stream the game over WiFi.

Can you get notifications to watch baseball on Apple TV?

Before closing out this post on how to watch baseball on Apple TV, I wanted to talk about notifications. After all, you might not have every game and its showing time memorized.

To keep things simple, you can set up notifications with the Apple TV app. You can set these up by following your favorite teams and/or turning on notifications for the Apple TV app.

Currently, there aren’t specific notifications for baseball streaming that you can enable or disable. But if you turn on Apple TV notifications, you should be notified when baseball is streaming.

Get ready to watch baseball on Apple TV

And that’s it! That’s everything you need to know to start watching baseball on Apple TV. Again, this is a great thing for baseball fans, giving them free access to live baseball events for the 2022 season and potentially beyond. Give it a watch on your device of choice!
