iOS 16: How to Customize AirPods Settings

By Aaron Kim 0 comments Last updated October 7, 2022

Apple’s AirPods have gone through a dynamic life cycle, from them being ridiculed at first to becoming one of the company’s most beloved inventions. Anyone who’s had a pair of AirPods knows that they’re a perfect balance between minimalism, quality, and functionality. Some people still have the first generation AirPods that are going strong to this day! It’s been a few years since we’ve been introduced to the product, and there have been multiple changes to it. If you’d like to find out more about how to customize your AirPod settings and the new AirPods Pro 2, read below.

iOS 16: How to Customize AirPods Settings

ios 16 customize airpod settings

iOS 16 introduced us to a new AirPods settings screen, where you can access all of your AirPod’s settings easily and in one place. Previously, you had to navigate through a few Settings screens and fiddle around with your AirPods to effectively customize anything. Now, it’s right under your nose. Here’s a list of the settings and features you can change in the new customize AirPod settings page:

  • Change AirPods name
  • Toggle Noise Cancellation on or off (if applicable)
  • Toggle Transparency on or off (if applicable)
  • Change AirPod touch controls
  • Start an ear tip test (if applicable)
  • Toggle Automatic ear Detection on or off
  • Automatically connect to this iPhone
  • Set up Personalized Spatial Audio (if applicable)
  • Determine which AirPod microphone to use
  • Allow AirPods to show in Find My
  • Toggle Optimized Battery Charging on or off (if applicable)
  • Disconnect AirPods
  • Forget this device

AirPods Pro 2 vs AirPods Pro vs AirPods

You may have found out that Apple released the anticipated AirPods 2 during the “Far Out” event. While the new product looks pretty similar to the first generation iteration, there are a lot of technical improvements that you can enjoy. One of its main features is the Adaptive Transparency mode, which blocks out harsh noises even if you don’t have Noise Cancellation mode on. You can also get up to 20 hours of listening time with a single charge with its improved battery and optimized battery charging. Its new H2 chip provides crisper sound quality, better noise cancellation and transparency, and amazing three-dimensional sound. For only $249, you can enjoy better quality listening and longer listening time for not that much more than the normal AirPods or the previous AirPod Pro version.

Should I Buy the AirPods Pro 2?

The AirPods aren’t like Apple’s iPhones, where each iteration comes with extreme improvements and software updates. Bluetooth headphones are great in the sense that you can buy a pair and enjoy your music or podcasts regardless of the version. So if you’re happy with your first generation AirPods, then there’s technically no reason to upgrade at all. Similarly, if you have an AirPods Pro 1st Generation, there’s definitely no need to upgrade to the 2nd Generation. If you are looking to enter the Bluetooth earphone market for the first time, we would suggest that you check out the AirPods Pro 2. For its price, it provides great listening quality, durability, and functionality.
