Updates to your iMac are important for security measures and getting the latest features. But sometimes you update your computer and then a feature you really like changed, looks different or isn’t even there anymore. One of those issues is that people who update to Safari 15.0 aren’t seeing the HOME icon on the address bar, which looks like a tiny house. It was always an easy way to navigate back to your homepage with the click of a button. But you can get it back. Below we’ll go into how to restore the Safari home button in Safari 15.0+.
How to Restore the Safari Home Button
You can put the home button back by using the Customize Toolbar. To do so, simply:
- Select View on your Safari menu at the top of the screen.
- Then select Customize Toolbar, like in the image below:
- You’ll see a menu that allows you to drag and drop different buttons onto the toolbar so that you can customize how you want the toolbar to look, like in the image below:
- Select the home button at the top right of the menu.
- Drag the home button to where you want it on the actual toolbar above the item selection menu. You can see how I placed a home button next to the URL bar itself on the left:
Select done on the Customize Toolbar window. Now your home button will be on your toolbar, even when you pull up a new window.
As an additional note, if you find you don’t want certain buttons on your toolbar, you can use the same Customize Toolbar menu to remove buttons. While in the Customize Toolbar menu, simply select the button on the toolbar at the top of the screen you wish to remove and drag it to its respective icon. That button will be removed.
What if I Don’t Want to Use Safari 15?
Some people don’t like Safari 15 because of the way it’s set up and other people report having issues visiting certain websites with it. There are a couple ways to get around this.
You might consider downloading a whole other browser, such as Firefox for the Mac.
Some people even report just using Safari Technology Preview while Safari gets the bugs of new updates worked out. This is a version of Safari that is used by developers to look at the features that may be added to later versions of Safari, but you don’t have to be a developer to download and use it.
You can even be part of the process of giving feedback on the Safari development process by using Safari Technology Preview. It runs on the side of the regular Safari, and just has a purple compass icon instead of the standard blue one.
You can download it from Apple’s developer page. After you install Safari Technology Preview, it can even be updated through Software Update under System Preferences.
