By Mona Anderson 0 comments Last updated September 22, 2020

Exciting new changes are coming with the newly unveiled iPad OS and Apple iOS 14. These changes specifically impact the standard home screen features.

This means that to enjoy the features, everyone needs to install the iOS 14.  Many users commonly get stuck while trying to install the iOS 14.

Specifically, most users have trouble and usually get stuck on the screen for “Preparing Update.” This seems to go on endlessly, stalling the update process. Learn the Steps to Troubleshoot and Complete a Stalled iOS 14 Download

Are you facing challenges while trying to upgrade to iOS 14? Not a problem. If you get “frozen” while updating iOS 14 on your iPhone and iPad, there’s a quick fix that works really well.

Once you learn the trick, you’ll save time and energy dealing with your iPhone. If your device fails to finish downloading or installation process of iOS 14, ending up frustrated. Others think that they have successfully finished the download and installation process only to discover that the “switched off” device cannot be switched on.

Note that the update process usually takes a few minutes to complete. Thus, whenever the system seems to delay on “Preparing Update,” try to be patient for a while and give it time. Moreover, even though you cannot cancel the update process, you can make your device restart and resume the update; you just need to remove the update file.

Hence, you should only proceed to troubleshoot when it’s clear that your iPhone or iPad is stuck on “Preparing Update.” Try these quick remedial measures to fix a persistent issue:

Simply Reset

While it seems rather simplistic and a cliché, resetting certainly works well and can produce surprising results. At times, you may have some bits getting stuck. In these situations, you just need to reset, and the problem should be fixed.

Press down and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button. Do this at the same time. Keep holding down until the Apple logo appears then let go. You’ll have to wait until the iPhone or iPad reboots before you know if the problem is fixed.

If the update is complete, great! If the update is not complete or the device isn’t rebooting, it’s time to move over to the next stage.

Plug the Device into a Wall Outlet

Okay, this might sound like an impractical suggestion. But it’s actually worked well for a few Apple users. Just simply plug your phone or tablet in. Why? During the installation process, your iPad or iPhone may have dipped below the prescribed, critical power levels.

Find a USB port or another outlet and plug it in. Wait for between 10 to 15 minutes to see if it resumes. You can try a hard reset to be safe. Hopefully, the device will come back to life. If it doesn’t, move to the next step.

Remove the iOS 14 update file and redownload the software update:

  1. From your iPhone or iPad’s home screen, go to “Settings.”
  2. Scroll down and click on “General.”
  3. Go to “iPhone Storage” and tap it.
  4. Scroll down to the “iOS 14 Update File” and select “Update File.”
  5. Proceed to “Delete Update.”
  6. Remove the file from device — you will be asked to confirm the action
  7. Click on “Delete Update.” Once this process is complete, go to “Settings.”
  8. Then “General.”
  9. Then “Software Update.”
  10. Click on “download and install,” and the software update should automatically start.

Typically, the iPhone re-downloads the file and prompts itself to proceed to the installation stage without lingering endlessly on “Preparing Update.”

Restore the device in iTunes

It’s also possible to restore your iPad or iPhone in iTunes. This is especially true if you’ve kept the backup process to the required levels. First, try following the standard steps. If the device doesn’t recover, no problem. You can move to the DFU or recovery mode.

To do this, you’ll need to learn how to put your iPad or iPhone into the recovery mode. First, restore it from the iCloud or iTunes backup. This will allow you to get all your content back onto your device when you finish.

Visit or Call Apple

Often the device software or hardware can make the update time fail. If you discover this is the case, visit the center to receive expert help. Or you can call Apple through the 1-800-MY- APPLE and ask for help.

Conclusion

It doesn’t take a genius to re-engineer a stalled update process with the iOS 14 system. Learn to do this quickly and effectively using these effective tips. Whether you use an iPhone or iPad, now you know what to do if your device is stuck.
