How to Change Your Default Keyboard on iPhone Using Built-in Options

You don’t necessarily need to download any extra software or packages to change the default keyboard on iPhone, as it comes with dozens of options built in for many foreign languages. Here’s how to add new keyboards to replace or supplement the default layout.

Step 1. Go to the “Settings” app.

Step 4. Press “Add New Keyboard” and scroll through the list of available keyboards to find the one you want.

Step 6. To set a new keyboard as your default, tap the “Edit” button on the “Keyboards” menu. Then tap and hold on the three lines icon next to the keyboard you want to set as default and move it manually to the top of the list.

How to Change Your Default Keyboard on iPhone Using Third-Party Keyboards

There are also third-party keyboards you can download and install, and these may work a little differently from the foreign language layouts. Here’s how to set them up:

Step 1. Go to the App Store and search for the keyboard you want to add. You can just type in “keyboard” and look at the options if you’re not sure which one you want.

How to Switch Between Keyboards on iPhone

If you’ve set up multiple keyboards on your iPhone – like a U.S. English one and a Spanish one, for example – you can easily switch between them on the fly while typing messages. To do this, hit the “Globe” icon on your keyboard. Tap it to scroll between your full list of keyboards, or long-press on it to see a pop-up menu with all your active keyboard options.
