Unfortunately, while the company’s Peloton Bike+ offers integration with Apple’s GymKit platform, those who are using the traditional Bike and Tread were not able to use their Apple Watch. Instead, we have needed to rely on other alternatives such as third-party heart rate monitors and apps in order to provide this functionality.
That has all changed, as Peloton recently announced support for the Apple Watch, and here’s how you can use Apple Watch with Peloton.

How To Use Apple Watch With Peloton
Peloton has updated its app on the iPhone and Apple Watch to bring support for workout tracking. This is a huge addition and one that could actually drive more people to consider a Peloton bike if they are looking for an in-home solution. The company detailed in a blog post how to get everything set up so that you can use Apple Watch with Peloton and here’s how:
- Install the Peloton app on your Apple Watch and iPhone.
- Download Peloton — at home fitness.
- Open the Peloton app on your iPhone.
- In the top right corner, tap More.
- Scroll down until you reach Add-ons and tap Apple Watch.
- Tap the Set Up button.
- Select Connect to Health App.
- Once the Health app opens on your iPhone, tap the Turn On All button.
- This allows the Peloton app to track the following metrics:
- Active Energy
- Resting Energy
- This allows the Peloton app to track the following metrics:
- After the permissions are granted, open the Peloton app again.
- Tap the Done button.
- Open the Peloton app on your Apple Watch.
- When prompted, tap Allow providing notification permissions to the Peloton app.
Once your Apple Watch is paired, you’ll be able to start tracking your workouts through the Peloton app. When the workout begins, a notification appears on your Apple Watch and you just need to tap it in order to get started.
What Metrics Does The Peloton App Track?
In the announcement post, Peloton went into detail about what the app will keep track of during your workouts. This includes heart rate monitoring, along with being able to finally use the app to calculate your “Strive Score”. If you haven’t heard of this before, here’s what Peloton’s Strive Score is:
A personal, noncompetitive metric that measures how much time you spend in each heart rate zone to track how hard you’re working out. This will give you an easy way to compare your performance across all your workouts, including cycling, strength, HIIT and bootcamp classes.
But while you go through the setup process for pairing your Apple Watch to the Peloton app, you’ll also be able to view the metrics tracked. This includes your heart rate and calories burned during your various workouts.
Peloton App Not Working?
If you are trying to follow the steps provided above and are unable to actually use these apps together, all hope is not lost. The first two things that you’ll need to do is make sure that you are trying to use the Peloton app with the right hardware, along with being updated to the latest version of iOS and watchOS. you also might need to check for an update to the Peloton app.

Troubleshooting
If you still can’t get your Apple Watch, iPhone, and Peloton to properly communicate, here are some steps that you can take:
- Your phone must be nearby.

- Check that your phone and Bike/Tread/compatible Apple device are signed in to the same user profile.
- Make sure your watch is fastened securely on your wrist.
- Make sure you’ve allowed the proper HealthKit permissions.
Still Not Working?
It might feel like a huge frustration, but if you are still running into problems, there are a few more steps that you can take.
- Tap end on your Watch to stop tracking the workout on your Watch and you should be able to see your active workout and be able to tap connect to start tracking again.
- If you are still having trouble, confirm that your health permissions are correct by going through the Watch setup steps in the Peloton App settings. Make sure you enable all health permissions. You may need to close your app and relaunch it for these to apply
- If this doesn’t, help delete your Peloton Watch app, download it again, and go through the setup steps.
In the event that you are running into problems with the Health app integration, follow these steps to try and get things back in working order:
- Open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Tap the profile picture in the top right corner.
- Under Privacy, tap Apps.
- Scroll down until you reach Peloton and select it.
- Make sure that all of the toggles are enabled.
- Close the Health app.
- Close the Peloton app.
- Restart your iPhone and Apple Watch.
After you have followed all of the different troubleshooting steps, you should be able to use the Peloton app with your iPhone and Apple Watch in order to keep track of your various workouts.
