The customization options on the iPhone and iPad are somewhat limited as Apple doesn’t exactly make it easy to change things like your icons. The addition of widgets and apps like Widgy and WidgetSmith help to add a bit of flair to your Home Screen. But the most obvious method for you to customize your device has been to change up your wallpaper.

The “problem” is that in order to change your wallpaper, you need to dive into the Settings app and scroll through your different pictures. But what if we told you that you could automatically change iPhone wallpaper without ever opening the Settings app?
How to Automatically Change iPhone Wallpaper
WallShift
It’s still pretty early in 2022, but there’s already a new app that is likely to end up as one of the best apps of the year. WallShift comes from Dario Rea, who has also created apps such as IconBoard and Codye. But with WallShift, you are able to have your wallpapers automatically changed throughout the day.
Different wallpapers can be applied based on the time of the day, along with being able to set Light and Dark mode wallpapers. WallShift even creates custom-generated wallpapers, adding even more customization options to your iPhone. Or, you can use WallShift to shuffle through pictures in your own Photos library.
Change iPhone Wallpaper With Shortcuts
Apple’s decision to purchase the WorkFlow app back in 2017 continues to pay dividends. This has unlocked another tier of what your iPhone, iPad, and now the Mac, are capable of.
Using Shortcuts is really the only way that you can even change your home screen icons. But you can also automatically change iPhone wallpaper using the Shortcuts app. To make the process easier, we’ve linked to a pre-created shortcut that makes it easy to change your wallpaper. This was created by Matthew Cassinelli, who used to work for the Workflow team before it was acquired by Apple and changed to Shortcuts.
Download Change Wallpaper Shortcut
- Open Safari on your iPhone.
- Open this link on your iPhone.
- Tap the Get Shortcut button.
- Scroll down and tap the Add Untrusted Shortcut button.
From there, the pre-created Shortcut will automatically be imported into the My Shortcuts section in the Shortcuts app. But the first time you try to activate this shortcut will be met with another series of dialog boxes. That’s due to the fact that you need to grant the “untrusted shortcut” access to the Photos app. Here’s how to get around that.
- Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
- Tap the My Shortcuts tab at the bottom.
- Locate the newly-added Shortcut.
- Tap the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the Shortcut button.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap the Allow Access button.
- Hit OK to confirm.
Once you’ve essentially enabled the Shortcut, you can either add it to your Home Screen or add it to a Shortcuts widget. This makes it easier for you to access so you won’t have to manually change your wallpaper all of the time.
