Tip 1. Reload the Page

Sometimes a browser can get stuck simply because it hasn’t received all the data to allow it to open a page. Try reloading the page by clicking the curved arrow at the end of the web address bar.

Tip 2. Clear Your Cache

On Safari, head to Settings which is a gear icon. Click here, then click “Preferences.” Click “Privacy” and then click “Remove All Website Data.” Click “Remove All” and finally, click “Done.” This removes cookies and other saved data that could be clogging the memory of the Safari app and slowing it down.

Tip 3. Check Your Version

There won’t be any new versions of Safari for Windows because Apple has pulled support more than a decade ago. However, you may still be running an older version. Check that you have version 5.1.7 which is the most recent version compatible with Windows devices. If not, these problems may continuously recur, and you may need to switch browsers permanently.

To check your version, click the settings button then “About Safari.” As you can see, the version above is slightly out of date. It’s tricky to update Safari due to Apple removing support for Windows devices. If you do find an updated version on an unofficial download website, check for reviews before considering downloading it. Downloads from unofficial sources may harm your Windows PC.

Tip 4. Switch Off Any Extensions

Some web extensions (usually add-ons offered by sites) can cause your browser to run slowly. Follow the same steps from Method 2. to get to “Preferences.” Now click Extensions and simply slide the main button to “Off.” Reload Safari and you should find that it runs faster.

Tip 5. Uninstall and Reinstall the Safari Browser

You can only do this if you still have the .exe file from your original download of Safari. Apple no longer supports Safari for Windows machines so you can’t get Safari directly from them. You may search for Safari for Windows 11 and discover the link as shown above. However, don’t let this fool you. If you click it, it takes you to a generic support page with no option to download.

You may be able to obtain Safari from an unauthorized download site but always approach these with caution. Unverified downloads can carry viruses and malware.

To uninstall Safari, press Start on your Windows PC. Go to “Settings” then “Apps.” These should be in alphabetical order. Find Safari, click the three dots next to the app name, and click “Uninstall.” Once complete, find the .exe file from your original download. Double-click this and follow the onscreen instructions.

Bonus Tips: What Else You Can Do

Apple doesn’t officially support the use of Safari on Windows 10 or 11 devices. So, while many people love this browser, permanent faults are tricky to get support with. You can always try a different browser such as:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox

…to name just a few. Most internet browsers are completely free of charge and have very similar features. If you decide to stick with Safari for Windows 11, just remember that there’s no support from Apple. You’ll have to use our troubleshooting guide or your own tech savvy to solve any issues that arise.
