Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the biggest reasons why you might want to consider using an iPhone over an Android phone is the software. We aren’t talking about the limitations offered by iOS compared to Android, but instead, are focusing more on the fact that Apple leads the industry when it comes to making sure your device will support the latest version of iOS for years.

Whenever a new version of iOS is released, one of the primary concerns comes down to what devices are being dropped from support. The truth is that this isn’t something that happens all too often, except for devices that are long overdue for an upgrade.
For example, when Apple released iOS 16, the company dropped support for the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and first generation iPhone SE. Even still, if you own the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone SE (2nd Generation), you’ll still enjoy most of the new features that iOS 16 has to offer.
How to Install Apps on iPhones That Don’t Support iOS 16
One of the other concerns whenever a new version of iOS is released is whether the developer for your favorite app will continue supporting previous versions. In most instances, this isn’t a problem, but if you happen to own and use an iPhone 7, can’t upgrade to iOS 16, and still want to download a certain app, you’re not quite out of luck. Chances are that you’ll be able to download an “older version” of the app, one that included support for your iPhone.
- Open the App Store on your iPhone.
- In the top right corner, click your Profile Image.
- Tap Purchased.
- Tap My Purchases.
- At the top of the page, tap the All button.
- Locate or search for the app that you want to download.
- Tap the Re-download button to the right of the app listing.
- If you see a prompt that says Download an older version of this app?, tap the Download button.
In the event that you go through the steps above and don’t see the dialog box that appears in the last step, then it could mean a couple of things. Either, the app developer removed support for your iPhone model entirely, or the older version of the app is simply no longer available for download. If this happens to you, depending on the app in question, you should be able to locate and install a suitable alternative. Otherwise, it might just be time to upgrade to a newer iPhone model.
