How to Turn Off iPhone 14

By Andrew Myrick 1 comment Last updated September 16, 2022

In the days before the iPhone X, it was much easier to turn off your iPhone, as you didn’t have to play finger gymnastics trying to press all the necessary buttons. Unfortunately, at least for those who want to turn off iPhone 14, those days are long gone. The entire iPhone 14 lineup continues the trend of home button-less iPhone models, leaving you instead with three different buttons that you’ll have to interact with.

How to Turn off iPhone 14

The first method for those who want to know how to turn off iPhone 14, is the “normal” way to turn off any iPhone that does not include a built-in Home Button. Here’s how to do so:

  1. Press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
  2. Continue holding until the Power Off slider appears at the top.
  3. Release the buttons.
  4. Drag the slider from left to right.

At some point over the past couple of years, Apple finally added the ability to turn off iPhone from the Settings app. It was a rather surprising addition, and it made us wonder why this wasn’t possible before. Nevertheless, here’s how you can turn off iPhone 14 from the Settings app:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone 14.
  2. Scroll down and tap General.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Shut Down.
  4. Drag the slider from left to right.

After you drag the slider, your iPhone might take a moment or two before it is actually, completely, turned off. From there, you can go ahead and press the Side button when you’re ready to turn the iPhone back on.

The last method can come in handy for those who want to turn off iPhone 14 in the event that you can’t interact with the Power Off slider. This usually occurs if something is causing your iPhone to freeze up, whether it’s an app or something else, and you just need to turn it off entirely to get things working again.

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button until the screen turns off completely.

If your iPhone is still functioning properly, you might see the Power Off slider appear at the top of the screen. Simply continue holding down the Side button until the iPhone’s screen goes black, as it will be turned off completely.

I have never loathed a phone as much as I do the iphone. Cannot wait to get rid of it. Apple, you will eventually go the way of IBM. Really looking forward to it.
