How To Use SharePlay With Hulu

By Andrew Myrick 0 comments Last updated December 29, 2022

While a lot has been said about Apple’s implementation of Universal Control with iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey, the iPhone also gained some pretty sweet features with iOS 15. One example of this is SharePlay, which makes it possible for you to watch content with friends and family even if they aren’t in the same room. Despite iOS 15 being available for more than six months at the time of this writing, not all media playback apps have been updated with support.

What Is SharePlay?

SharePlay Hero

As we alluded to earlier, SharePlay was introduced alongside the release of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey. With SharePlay enabled, you are able to share a song, video, or screen with others via FaceTime. This means you can be watching a movie or show with friends or family, while having a separate FaceTime window open at the same time.

However, for publicly-undisclosed reasons, SharePlay was confirmed to be delayed after it was found to be disabled in iOS 15 Beta 6. Apple didn’t reveal exactly why the feature was delayed, but the feature finally arrived with the release of iOS 15.1.

How To Use SharePlay With Hulu

Hulu has transformed into one of the most popular streaming services on the market today. Not only can you enjoy some original content produced by Hulu’s studios, but this is also one of the best options for those who want to cut the cord. Instead of dealing with a dedicated cable provider, you can sign up for Hulu with Live TV and get a wide variety of live programming. And the best part is that you can watch it from any of your devices, including your iPhone.

With the latest update to Hulu, the company finally brought support for Apple’s SharePlay feature. By doing so, you can fire up a new movie, TV show, or even a baseball game, and watch it with friends and family from the comfort of your own home. Here’s how you can use SharePlay with Hulu:

  1. Open the Hulu app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Find the movie or TV show that you want to share.
  3. Tap the Share icon under the title.
  4. In the top right corner, tap the SharePlay button.
  5. If this is your first time using SharePlay with the Hulu app, tap the Continue button when prompted.
  6. Enter the contact that you want to use SharePlay with.
  7. Tap Send when prompted.

The process of getting everything set up and working is about as easy as it gets. Having the giant “SharePlay” button in the Share Sheet definitely helps make things even easier. But once you’ve found a movie or show to watch and sent it to your friends, then you both will be able to watch the content together. And since SharePlay is using FaceTime as the backbone, you can actually have a conversation during the show, or pause it so you can take a quick bathroom break or grab some more popcorn.
