macOS: Enable/Disable Dictation

By Michelle Honeyager 0 comments Last updated July 20, 2022

Dictation can allow you to speak and the Mac will record what you say into text form. Read on to learn how to turn this feature on and off.

How to Turn Dictation On or Off

  1. Click the Apple menu.
  2. Select System Preferences.
  3. Click the Keyboard icon.

  1. Click on Dictation.

  1. You’ll see a line that says On or Off next to Dictation. Select the one you want.

You might get a prompt asking if you want to improve Siri and dictation. Clicking Share Audio Recording stores recordings of you interacting with Siri and Dictation to review for improvement. Otherwise, you can click Not Now.
