The iOS Podcast app saw an overhaul with the release of iOS 11, leaving many questions. A lot of the best features were removed, including the standard “queue” option. Instead, Apple has decided to make use of the ‘Up Next’ feature in the Podcast app.

The problem with the Up Next queue is the fact that it can be a bit tricky to find. Then, the next problem comes in the form of being able to manage this queue with relative ease.
Find the Up Next queue
In order to see what’s in your queue, you’ll first need to add a podcast episode to the queue. Doing this is easy as you will want to find the next episode you want to play.
From there, tap the three-dot menu button in the bottom right-hand corner. A slide-up prompt will appear and you will want to select “Play Next”.
Now that your queue has been created, you will likely want to add a few more podcasts to the list. This can be done by navigating to your library, using 3D Touch, and selecting “Play Next”.
For those who don’t have the luxury of 3D Touch, things are a bit different. You will want to open the current podcast playing and swipe up. It is important to note that you want to swipe up around a half-inch from the bottom of the display. If not, you may accidentally invoke Control Center.
Arrange or Re-order
After podcasts have been added to the Up Next queue, you may want to arrange the list, or re-order the podcasts. Doing this is easy and you’ll only need to press and hold on the three horizontal lines next to a podcast.
From there, drag and drop the podcast to where you want in the list. This can be done over and over until your “playlist” is properly ordered to your needs.
If you want to remove the podcast from the Up Next queue, you can simply swipe to the left. A ‘Remove’ button will appear, and tapping the button will remove the specific podcast from the queue.
There are a lot of complaints about the iOS 11-12 Podcast app, but with so many issues, there is hope that we could see some changes. The next iOS will likely be announced at WWDC in June, so we can cross our fingers that changes are on the way.
