Many users have noticed that their Chrome browser stops syncing with their google account when trying to browse after upgrade to macOS Mojave. The chrome status on the top right corner simply shows “Paused” and requires you to sign into your Google account every time you try to access a page.
This is a very annoying experience for readers that tend to use Chrome as their default browser on their MacBook.

How to Fix Chrome Paused/Sync Issues on macOS Mojave
If you are experiencing this issue, the following quick steps should help in fixing this problem.
- Sign in using your Google credentials as requested using Chrome
- Visit the site chrome://flags
- Click on Edit > Find.. and type in ‘Consistency’ in order to locate the setting and set “Identify consistency between browser and cookie jar” to “Disabled”

- If you are unable to find the ‘consistency’ option as shown in the previous step, click on ‘Reset All to default’ at the top right corner of your screen
- Next, Go to chrome://settings/content/cookies and toggle off Keep local data only until you quit your browser ( the second option, as shown in the image)

- Scroll down on the same settings screen and (chrome://settings/content/cookies) whitelist your Google account by allowing “google.com” as a cookie

- Quit and relaunch Google Chrome and check if you remain logged into your Google Account
Once you complete the six steps above and re-launch Chrome, it should work fine on your macOS Mojave without showing the “Paused” status or requesting you to keep logging back in.

I have multiple Chrome/Gmail accounts (I use four Gmail accounts every day) and since installing Mojave, my carefully erected Chrome existence has been a mess!!
(Actually, I think my trouble just started with the OS 10.14.4 update. Or maybe it was a Chrome update.)
My primary computer is an iMac desktop.
I’ve done what you suggested above and hope it stops the “paused” problem; thank you.
But I have restarted my iMac and still find that my accounts are not syncing the bookmarks toolbar or browsing history.
That is, where before I had the same toolbar and history regardless of which account icon showed in the upper right corner, now they are different.
Can you help?
i did it but it still shows “paused” when I open my laptop. However, my passwords are still there unlike before.
Hi Malcolm,
Try shutting down your laptop and then restarting.
Then try again. If still paused, clear your cookies and cache in Chrome and make sure “Keep local data only until you quit your browser” is turned OFF.
At the top-right of Chrome, click the three dots (More button)
Click More tools and then Clear browsing data
At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time
Next to ‘Cookies and other site data’ and ‘Cached images and files’, tick the boxes
Click Clear data
If still issues, try this:
Browse chrome://flags
Find: Consistency
Switch Identity consistency between browser and cookie jar to Enabled Dice (fix auth errors)
THEN,
Browse chrome://settings/content/cookies
Turn off Keep local data only until you quit your browser
Life saver.
Thank-you so much!!!!
SK,
Thanks for this info. Chrome was constantly signing me out after I updated my MacBook Air to macOS Mojave. It was driving me nuts!
Followed your steps and so far no more signing out! Yippee!
Thanks a bunch for all the tips on this article and on your site.
Appreciate it.
Eliza
Well done this worked a treat, other sites just said about the consistency trick but your instructions were spot on!! 😉
Cheers….
